Star Wars Legacy #35

Star Wars Legacy #35
Dark Horse Comics
Ostrander, Duursema & Parsons

Cade and company have a good falling out in this issue while the Fel faction and the Moffs start scheming to gain a foothold on the Sith and the uncertainty surrounding Darth Krayt. I can’t remember the last time this series dealt with these four factions in a single issue. The issue doesn’t have a ton of Sith, but they are focal point for all the maneuvering. This is a very good installment for this series.

When the Sith return to Coruscant we check in on the Moffs. They have been playing two (or more) sides in the entire political scene all along in this series and watching the Sith return without Krayt has their wheels spinning. It’s interesting that they seem to find the Sith so vulnerable without Krayt. You would have to think that maybe they have some friends within the inner circle of the Sith ready to strike.

Next we watch Fel’s reaction to his Imperial Knights account of whether or not Krayt is dead. The funny thing about this scene is it had me questioning whether Krayt was dead or not. He has survived before so why couldn’t he still come back? Until his body is incinerated I’m not convinced the guy is dead. Anyway you look at it, this issue does a great job of planting seeds of doubt out there with regards to Krayt and his status.

Finally we make our way to Cade. In a bit of a subplot, Cade and Syn get in a back alley battle and when the cops show up, Cade’s cousin (and Syn’s love interest) shows up. This puts Cade in a position where he must decide whether or not to kill his own blood who is trying to turn him in. Surprisingly, this scene has quite a few funny moments in it, right up until the end. The scene is meant to show how Cade really just cares about himself but I couldn’t help but laugh at some of content in here, like the comments about Syn’s hair and Cade making the one guy lick his boots. This was all good stuff.

The issue ends with the unveiling of the new “Darth Vader”. As a result, Cade has a falling out with this Uncle and Aunt and leaves the planet pretty much as an outcast. The new Vader returns to Fel and the Imperial Knights.

The issue is very good and I tried to be light on the description of what happens in here to keep from spoiling everything. The comic’s best moments are in the artwork. Personally, I wasn’t too awed by the new Vader, but it was still cool to see the new character design. The art was particularly fun during the Cade and Syn brawl and then the showdown with the cousin. I never get tired of the changing eye color for Cade.

This series is great every single month. Some issues have better plots while others have better action. This one has some political planning and a birth of a new character all set with the backdrop of Cade burning some bridges. It’s a fun series and a very good issue.
