Star Wars Legacy #31
Dark Horse Comics
Ostrander, Duursema & Parsons

Vector wraps up, but so does a major story in this title. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Vector crossover didn’t slow this title’s momentum down at all. In fact, it seems that Vector has helped to push across a new status quo in this title. I was shocked at the ending here. Vector may have been a hit or miss crossover, but this arc, in this title, may have been the best for this entire series.

The issue is a battle. Darth Krayt wants the talisman, but the possessor, Celeste, is trying to kill Krayt with help from Cade, Jedi and Imperial Knights. Krayt doesn’t enter the trap alone though, as he has some of his Sith underlings helping him out.

When the dust clears it boils down to Krayt and Celeste. Celeste, feeling the Sith power from the talisman is pretty unpredictable, as is customary of a Cade girlfriend. Azlyn, another Cade girlfriend who has ties to the Jedi and the Imperial Knights interrupts the fight. As if that isn’t enough, Cade interferes further making for an ending that is usually seen in pro wrestling when everyone rushes the ring.

The issue further satisfies by providing a twist at the end to further shake up the status quo. Without spoiling it I can just say that some characters die, others seem to die, and the balance of power is shifting big time.

The artwork delivers from cover to cover. The issue is a battle and the art makes it feel that way. The colors in the lightsaber clashes make the pages pop. The mix of close-ups help to see the intensity on the faces of the players. The comic plays with a huge cast in the battle pretty well.

As a single issue it will be very difficult to top this one. This is one of those Darth-Vader-says-he’s-your father type issues and I didn’t see it coming at all. If you have any interest in the distant future of the Skywalkers then I urge you to pick this one up. I can’t recommend any issue more than this one.
