Star Wars Legacy #28
Dark Horse Comics
Ostrander, Duursema & Parsons

Vector heads to its fourth and final title as Celeste meets Cade Skywalker in this issue. Those that have been following the Legacy title will most likely find this issue to be a bit of a slow down from the rest of the series. It seems this issue is meant to catch the readers up on the happenings in the Vector crossover in case the readers of Legacy haven’t been following along. It’s not that this issue is bad, it’s just that a lot of time is spent filling us in. The issue ends with a nice twist that I didn’t see coming. The artwork gives a different view of Celeste and delivers it usual high quality work.

The issue opens with Celeste being talked to by her friend, the Sith Karness Muur abroad a mostly empty Imperial Ship. Muur is inside Celeste’s head due to the trinket she wears around her neck. At the same time, Cade and company are enjoying their own conversations in their ships. This sequence gives any new reader to either Vector or Legacy pretty much all you need to know about the key characters. Cade’s crew are talking about Cade to let you know what some of his peers think of him. Cade is trying to be reached by his former Jedi training partner while he sinks into his own demons and the Imperial Knights let you know what the potential enemy thinks of the golden boy.

Fate or Sith magic then brings the two ships together. The remainder of the issue has Cade and friends battling the same monsters that Luke, Vader and Zayne fought in the other pieces of Vector. Along the way we are given more character re-introduction of Celeste and some character interaction between Cade and Celeste. The ending provides an interesting twist on what was sure to be the death of one of the newer supporting characters.

It’s a fairly straightforward first issue to an arc. There is a lot of recap and introduction and level setting for the characters and plot lines. The issue doesn’t really provide a whole lot that is new for any of the main characters. It’s not that this issue is boring, but it just doesn’t launch into anything too edgy just yet. I’m sure next issue has that in store for us.

One thing that kind of bugged me about the issue was that it doesn’t really address the fact that Celeste hasn’t aged in the 100+ years since she was in Dark Times or Rebellion. I realize it might just be the Sith artifact that helps to stay young, but I would like a little information on that subject.

The artwork is standard Legacy brilliance. The main difference here is that Celeste is finally shown to be a bit of a schizophrenic in terms of her facial expressions. It’s a nice thing to see. She actually shows her Sith side and her Jedi side panel to panel in much the same way that Cade does. It’s a great rendition of her.

The issue is good but not great. It’s not memorable but it does provide a nice surprise at the end. For those of you who follow Vector you will enjoy this comic. For those of you who follow Legacy just grind it out through this one. For those of you who don’t follow either I think you will love Legacy regardless of what the crossover that plows through has or doesn’t have. I can’t wait to see Krayt, Cade and Celeste together.
