Since the announcement in December 2020 of the new slate of small screen shows coming to Disney+, what is the possible spec for Lando?  Let's check out the notable issues.

One of the announced upcoming nine Disney+ Star Wars television shows will feature the smooth-talking smuggler, Lando.  Justin Simien will be the showrunner for the Lando series.  Simien directed Dear White People and Bad Hair.

There are rumors of the show featuring either Donald Glover, who played a younger version of the character in Solo: A Star Wars Story, or Billy Dee Williams.  Williams first played Lando Calrissian in the Star Wars original trilogy The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi.  Williams then returned in The Rise of Skywalker.   More on all that later.

Star Wars #43

Star Wars #43 is the first appearance of Lando Calrissian, who also appears on the cover of the issue.  The issue includes five pin-ups by Terry Austin, Michael Golden, John Byrne, Marie Severin, and Frank Miller.

This issue has been undervalued for a long time in my opinion and has been due a correction.  A graded 9.8 has an FMV of $270 with a +285% trend.  (There is one crazy high outlier sale factored in there but maybe not so undervalued now).  And a 9.6 has an FMV of $130 with a +232% trend.

Rumors that involve Billy Dee Williams include a possible prequel to the events of Star Wars #43 and the building of Cloud City.  Also, Billy Dee rumors focus on an older Lando reuniting with his long-long daughter, who may or may not be Jannah or T2-1719.  (Lots of discussion about whether his daughter is Jannah or a new character).  Jannah was a character that appeared in Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker and has no comic book appearance so far.

Lando #1 (2015 series)

Not many spec possibilities in this series except for Star Wars #43  There was only one sale over $100 in a 9.8 so far of this issue.

The only other issue in this series of note is the third issue.  Lando #3 is the first appearance of Darth Momin's mask.   The mask of Lord Momin was a blue helmet crafted by the Sith Lord and sculptor Darth Momin using lightsabers.  Anyone left alone with the Mask in a confined area was drawn to the dark side of the Force.  The variant of #3 has the most sales, but not many graded sales overall and only a few issues on the census.

The other #1 variants or other issues in this series show very little movement at the present time.

Lando - Double or Nothing (2018 series)

Donald Glovers's young Lando was a standout in Solo, though it was a box office disappointment.  However, the show has picked up fans from streaming on Netflix and now Disney+.

If young Lando is featured in the new show, the idea could be a prequel from before Lando met Hans Solo.  This storyline could also include Lando's droid companion and navigator L3-37.

Lando - Double or Nothing #1 variant has a FMV in a 9.8 of $80 which is the highest valued choice of the first issue.  The first issue of this series is the comic book debut of droid L3-37.

Lando - Double or Nothing #5 variant had one very recent sale of $225 for a 9.8 graded copy.

Final Thoughts

Bottom line, so far not a lot of spec possibilities around Lando.   Think Star Wars #43 is a good pick-up because I still think it has room to grow.

Between the Donald Glover young Lando and the Billy Dee Williams older Lando storylines, I'd pick Billy Dee Williams and his daughter.  Glover has lots going on in his music career and other projects and will be hard-pressed to commit to this project.  Keep a lookout for a first comic book appearance of Lando's daughter in 2021.

However, if you find Lando - Double or Nothing #1 or #5 variants cheap, it's an easy pick-up.
