So, in December 2020, at the Disney Investor Event, Disney+ announced the slate of upcoming Star Wars TV shows and movies for 2021-2023.  And the ripples from that meeting are continuing.  Nine new Star Wars series for Disney+ and the next Star Wars feature film were revealed.   What has developed now a few months later?  What are the newest spec rumors?  As if Star Wars spec wasn't nuclear already--here's some new reactor fuel to help you consider future Star Wars investment opportunities.  So, let's take a deep dive into the possibilities!  First up in Part 1, the television series: Ahsoka.

Ahsoka On Disney+

After her live-action debut in The Mandalorian, Chapter 13 "The Jedi", the hype and fervor just went exponential about this character.  Ahsoka will get her own limited series with Mandalorian showrunner and writer Jon Favreau in the mix with the project.  Rosario Dawson will star as Ahsoka.  No definite production dates have yet been released, so this show is scheduled to be released around Christmas 2021.   OK, so let's talk first appearance and get that out of the way, and look at some possibilities for Ahsoka.

Clone Wars #1

It's been talked about, discussed, and marveled at.  Let's check-in with the beast that is Clone Wars #1, the first appearance of Ahsoka Tano.  In December 2019, a graded 9.8 with the best offer listed at $350 sold for $250.  (I really got to work on my DeLorean).  But that was then.  From March 2020, onwards, the price has steadily climbed until we now have an FMV of $1650!  Its trend?  Up 44%.  Very few recent comics have had such a dramatic rise so quickly.  Don't forget the Clone Wars #1 variant.  It has gone from an FMV of around $100 in 2015 to a current FMV of $4200 and a trend of +475%!  (not a typo).  There were 1000 total copies of the variant printed.  A lottery determined which 10 retailers received 100 copies free of charge in a promotion by Dark Horse (nice promotion!).

Emerging Ahsoka Tano Keys

For most collectors, Clone Wars #1 is not a financial possibility, but there are other options to consider.  Ahsoka's second appearance and first full cover appearance was in a graphic novel, Star Wars The Clone Wars--Shipyards of Doom.  There's not much happening with that issue presently.  There's also a Target DVD Special Edition, which is the featured image in this blog, that has a few sales.   Star Wars The Clone Wars #2 is worth a look since it is Ahsoka's 3rd appearance and also a full cover appearance.  This issue has an FMV of $280 for a 9.8 and $75 for a 9.6.  There's not a bunch of sales right now but that could change.  Issues #3-8 of the 2008 Dark Horse Clone Wars series all have FMVs over $100 for 9.8s and should be included as spec possibilities.

For your consideration, first giving a nod to Star Wars Darth Vader #14 and Mace Windu #5 (Ahsoka first cameo appearances), I give you Star Wars Age of the Republic Special #1.  It is Marvel, it is an early full appearance of Ashsoka Tano, and it is affordable.   A graded 9.8 has a FMV of $55.  The Pham variant is my favorite option of this issue though.  It's a great cover that has the bonus of featuring Asajj Ventress.  Also, worthy to be considered is Star Wars #30 Mile High Comics Exclusive variant.  Not much happening around this book so far but it's another early cover appearance of Ahsoka Tano.

Looking Ahead

The upcoming Ahsoka show on Disney+ can only boost the already booming comics related to her.  The best spec possibilities to consider are some of the more inexpensive Ahsoka appearances like Star Wars Age of the Republic Special.  Bottom line: Ahsoka still has room to grow.

Up next in Part 2, we'll take a look at the show that may have the most buzz of the announced upcoming Disney+ shows--The Acolyte.
