If you're a fan of Julius "Dr. J" Erving or the Philadelphia 76ers, PWCC has 11 cards featuring Dr. J in its weekly auction ending on Sunday, June 4th. Two of those cards are even Gem Mint! Let's take a look at several of these cards below.

1972 Topps Basketball Julius Erving Rookie #195 PSA 8 NM-MT

Probably most famous for his spectacular dunks, many don't realize that Dr. J was much more than the Dominique Wilkins of his era. Somewhat overshadowed by Magic Johnson and Larry Bird during the early 1980s, many have forgotten that Julius "Dr. J" Erving defeated Bird and the Boston Celtics twice in the Eastern Conference Finals in 1980 and 1982 and swept Magic Johnson and the Los Angeles Lakers during the 1983 NBA Finals.

He also received more Most Valuable Player awards than either Bird or Johnson (Dr. J received four and Bird and Johnson received three each). Although almost all basketball fans know who Dr. J is, I actually think he's a bit underrated in comparison to his peers.

In its weekly auction, PWCC has four of Dr. J's 1972 Topps rookie card for sale in a variety of grades, including the card shown in the photograph above: a PSA 8 NM-MT copy. In late April, an identical card sold on eBay for$2,358.33. As of Friday, June 2nd, the current bid on PWCC was $1,525. Right now, that is looking like a really good deal. If that's still too rich for your blood (it is for mine), PWCC also has an SGC-graded 6 EX-MT copy (current bid is $125) and a lower-grade PSA-graded 3 VG copy (current bid is only $90).

1980 Topps Basketball Erving Larry Bird Magic Johnson Rookie Autographed DNA 10 PSA 5

Speaking of Dr. J's peers, he is featured on this card along with Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. Although not high grade, this card is notable for being Magic Johnson's rookie card and also for being autographed by all three Hall of Famers. There haven't been any recent sales of identical card (i.e., a PSA 5 autographed by all three players), but sales prices for similar cards have sold for a wide range of prices.

For example, a PSA AUTO 10 copy sold for $3,050 on eBay on April 3rd after 27 bids. As another point of reference, a PSA AUTO 9 sold for $2,889 on May 3 after 39 bids. As of June 2nd, the current bid on PWCC is $1,075.

1976 Topps Julius Erving #1 PSA 10 GEM MINT

By far the most expensive Julius Erving card up for auction this week is a 1976 Topps Julius Erving #1 PSA 10 (Gem Mint). As of June 2nd, the current bid for this unique card is a whopping $7,750.

Because this GM card is so rare, it's not surprising that I couldn't find any recent sales of an identical card. As a point of reference, a PSA 8.5 copy sold on eBay for $895 on April 14th, but that card isn't rare and not comparable to the one that PWCC is currently auctioning.
