Miles Morales has finally hit the big screen; the animation spectacular Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has arrived and it is driving many comic book prices including but not limited to Ultimate Fallout #4. This is the first appearance of Miles Morales Marvel's latest version of Spider-Man. It bodes well that the general public acceptance is positive; a strong catalyst for all the spider-versions portrayed in the Spider-Verse. But most especially good news for Miles Morales our hip Spider-Man. Everything I have heard about the Spider-Verse is positive, almost none of the folks I have casually questioned had anything but good opinions of the show. The numbers have been simply "amazing" for this comic book. I have been tracking this comic book as a possible key to speculate on and I have not been disappointed. This issue Ultimate Fallout #4 is the newest version of Spidey for the Twenty-First Century. Miles first appearance is from the team of Bendis, Hickman, Spencer, Crain, Larroca, and Pichelli.

Ultimate Fallout #4

My initial thought reviewing the trailer for Spider-Verse; was that they (Sony and Marvel) have a hit on their hands. My second thought, how can I profit from it? The top five grades for Ultimate Fallout #4 have shown exceptional returns: (9.8) +47.5%, (9.6) +27%, (9.4) +32.9%, (9.2) +75.9% and (9.0) at positive+46.8%. The two grades I have reviewed are mint (9.8) and near mint (9.4). The current price for (9.8) is $375 FMV and the (9.4) runs about $120 FMV. There is an above average chance you can purchase Miles cheaper than FMV. Ultimate Fallout #4 is still not really on the radar yet of the general collectors or another way to look at it; this comic book is just beginning its run-up in price. You may be able to find a copy for less, especially if you go the raw comic book route and CGC it.

Web of Spider-Man #36

Perhaps you are more into the villains in the Spider-Verse; well according to the marketing material I reviewed the villain Tombstone is in this animation universe movie. He first appeared in Web of Spider-Man #36, created by Gerry Conway and Alex Saviuk. Some of the offshoot comics like Web of.. and Spectacular Spider-Man actually had some interesting adventures and ruthless villains. Tombstone is resistant to attacks and capable of withstanding great impact forces, bullets, and toxic gas without injury. His superhuman speed and strength obtained by exposure to an experimental gas giving him just enough power to be able to trade blows with Spidey. In addition, the character is an above average hand to hand combatant. He mixes it up with the Spider heroes in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse but is eventually defeated. Think Arnold Schwarzenegger in Raw Deal with a touch of Lurch from the Adams Family.

This book has also inflated in value currently mint condition grade (9.8) recently sold for $362 in November on eBay. Over the last year, Web of Spider-Man #36 has had a good return on investment with grades (9.6), (9.4) and (9.2) returning +21.9%, +64.6%, and +29.8% respectively. Sometimes investing in the villains is equally profitable as speculating on superheroes. I believe it was Joe Quesada who once said, "the villains are how we measure our heroes greatness, the greater the villain the more outstanding the superhero" (paraphrase from movie interview).

Spectacular Spider-Man #139

Also, you could buy Tombstone's origin story in Spectacular Spider-Man #139. This book is much cheaper with (9.8) going for only $80. It has picked up popularity, in 2017 it sold in (9.8) for $22.50; less then two years later last October 2018 it sold for $109 and that represents a very healthy positive +204.9% ROI! Why not buy it in a raw copy? After all, if they continue to use this villain his books will rise. He might make an interesting opponent for the Punisher someday or even in a Spidey big tent movie.

Villains or heroes, mobster maniacs, or origin stories you have three books to choose from for future investment or speculation. In these blogs, I try to give the high, middle, and low price point options. I believe this appeals to a wider group of readers and makes for a more interesting review. In addition, to Tombstone and Miles Morales, the animation Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has also given us a glimpse into a vast diversity of superheroes. It includes Spider-Ham, Silk, Spider-Man 2099 and these are just a few of the names. Many of these heroes comic book first appearances have shown great upside. Don't climb the walls for not purchasing Miles Morales first appearance early on; simply purchase one of these wall crawlers now, before the next animation movie hits like a right cross from Tombstone.
