Dust off your long boxes, ya hardboiled turtle slappers, because Spider-Man Noir is getting his own show. The only question that remains is who has Nicolas Cage’s number?

Sony and Amazon announced Thursday that the Into the Spider-Verse’s breakout character will be starring in his own series. It won’t be another cartoon because Spider-Man Noir is getting the live-action treatment on Amazon Prime. Oren Uziel, who wrote the screenplays for 2021’s Mortal Kombat as well as The Lost City and 21 Jump Street, is reported as the head writer. While his past credits may have some fans cringing, he developed the Spider-Man Noir show alongside Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the brains behind Into the Spider-Verse, so there's reason to remain optimistic.

There are currently no details regarding the plot. The character is from Earth-90214, where Peter Parker and his origin story have been set against the backdrop of the Great Depression. Instead of being bitten by a radioactive spider, he finds an enchanted totem that grants him visions of a spider-god. When he awoke, he had been given spider-powers.

Although Spider-Man himself may be under contract with Marvel Studios, Variety reports that Sony has control over some 900 characters. After the success of both Venom movies, as corny as they may have been, the studio is determined to bring every one of them to life. Sure, Morbius may have stunk it up at the box office, but that hasn’t deterred Sony from giving the greenlight to Silk: Spider Society, Kraven the Hunter, Madame Web, Hypno-Hustler, and El Muerto, not to mention the numerous rumors surrounding Black Cat.

No doubt, the news will immediately impact the secondary market, beginning here.

SPIDER-MAN NOIR #1

The first time readers met the Spider-Man with a transatlantic accent was in 2009. Little did they know the future that was in store for him. Although the character was featured in the video game, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, it was Nic Cage’s perfect voice work that helped catapult him to stardom following Into the Spider-Verse. Although he won’t return for Across the Spider-Verse, now we see that Sony had a bigger picture in mind.

Looking for a crisp 9.8 to add to your sets? The 30-day average stands at $385, but Thursday saw it netting anywhere from $400-$500. If that’s too much for your budget, consider downgrading to the 9.6 where the fair market value has been below $150 over the past month.

If that’s too much for your budget, consider the sketch variant edition, which was selling for under $200 on eBay Thursday afternoon.

WHERE ARE WE GOING?

Adding Spider-Man Noir to the mix should raise an eyebrow or two. Somehow, his series will likely tie into all the other Spider-Verse projects Sony has in the works. Since the studio can’t make its own traditional Spider-Man series or cartoon, this could be the next best thing.

On a larger scale, it also implies that the Multiverse will be central to the interconnectivity between the different projects. That leaves me wondering what other Spider-Man variants will get their own movies or shows in the coming year.
