Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales wasn't a game I was itching to get my hands on at the immediate release. I planned on holding out for the PS5 version. But with those consoles forever flying off the shelves, I eventually had to give in.

In due time, I stopped being transfixed by the PS5 and Cyberpunk ads and caved into something that was in stock, Spider-Man: Miles Morales for the PS4. I trepidly began my Miles adventure. What a fool I was to not have taken the leap earlier. With Valentines Day still in our rearview mirror, let me introduce you to a man that may be a tough cookie on the outside, but you'll end up slowly falling for him by the end.

The OG v. The Newcomer

Peter Park is the Spider-Man. So how can Miles Morales even come close to compare? I struggled to create an initial connection with this character when I had already fallen in love with Peter Parker's story from the 2018 release. I wanted to avoid a love triangle. Awkward. Really Peter, you just had to up and leave for Symkaria? I have attachment issues, apparently. Slowly but surely though, Miles won me over. Maybe it was for the best I was on a break with Peter. The plot began sticking with me a bit more as I unlocked more capabilities, along with Venom Blast. That's when the real fun began. Before too long, it was starting to feel as if this would be able to compare with Peter's legacy after all.

What's There To Swipe Right On:

The plot of this story is venturing through Harlem while keeping a lid on the impending war between Roxxon Corporation and the Underground. Relationships are crucial to the storylines, as a childhood friendship with Phin (aka Tinkerer) threatens to crumble into non-existence. And why are we getting chills running up our spines when talking to Uncle Aaron, aka Prowler? I appreciated the balance of being able to dive into the main storyline to interact with these characters, but also having plenty of side missions to complete in order to power up and unlock new, slick suits. Hello, Crimson Cowl.Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Although some characters needed more attention and development, overall these relationships sealed the deal for me. Not to mention a juicy crush that goes by the name of Hailey Cooper, which forced me to feel some warm and fuzzies. This beautiful hearing-impaired street artist starts giving Miles googly eyes from early on. These pure, teenaged moments are the balance needed for someone grappling with super-sized abilities. The crush, Hailey Cooper, also gives another example of the inclusivity that the game pushes for. Unfortunately for the character lineups though, no pigeons made the cut. Weren't those all our favorites from the prior game?

A Legend in the Making

Miles Morales is very much worth getting your hands on, even if you find some repetitiveness with the 2018 version.  As Tuck noted, 2020 was a banner year for Miles Morales, in all regards. 2021 is going to keep up that momentum with steady sales for this game (4.1 million copies in 2020 laid the foundation), cover art for Miles Morales recently selling at a stunning $225,000, and a Spider-Man movie set to be released in December. On top of all that, a companion book is being published February 23rd. So let's keep up that drive and include Miles in your gameplay if you haven't already. He's not to be overlooked. With everything on the horizon, 2021 might actually be a more pivotal year. What would really push this game to its potential is if Insomniac released a DLC. It would be able to fill in some gaps and development with some of our characters. In the meantime, open up those hearts and start falling in love while you're falling from buildings.

Spider-Man: Miles MoralesInvest in this Relationship

The attention and focus on Miles Morales can only get hotter from here. While I think Insomniac could increase the value and worth if they give it a DLC, this game is worth every penny.  No matter if you're a PS4 or PS5 player, the game is still at the release price of $50, ignoring previous conversations about a possible next-gen increase. Anything with a Miles Morales label on it these days is worth investing in and carries with it the hope of increased worth. While this game isn't a rare find by any means, there is added value through his continuously rising popularity through comics and movies alike. The future with Miles is looking bright indeed.
