Spawn #216Media Release -- Spawn's 20th Anniversary celebration is starting to rev up and Todd McFarlane Productions has a few surprises up its sleeve for fans. The first major reveal being a brand new cover for Spawn #216, on sale Wednesday, February 8th, penciled and inked by Spawn creator himself, Todd McFarlane!

Sure Todd has created covers on and off for his flagship title, however, this cover holds a special significance as it was originally planned for issue #19 back in October of 1994!

"I didn't use this cover image because I drew this early in the run of Spawn and wanted to make sure the main character was on the front of every cover," McFarlane said.

After not using the cover, Todd forgot about it for quite some time, until a story line emerged featuring the character emblazoned on it. Now more than 17 years later, Todd decided to utilize this nostalgic art to add excitement to Spawn's 20th Anniversary. After cleaning up the line work a bit, Todd sent it off to colorist FCO Plascencia to bring it to life. The result is a modern day twist on a classic character!

However, using an archived piece of art isn't the only surprise we have in store for you. A specific amount of black and white versions were printed and randomly packed with retailer orders. Be sure to snag this issue, and if you're lucky, the limited-edition black and white version!

Spawn #216, a 32-page full color comic book for $2.99, goes on sale Wednesday, February 8th. To find a comic shop near you, call 1-888-COMIC-BOOK or visit www.comicshoplocator.com.
