Spacedog Releases SABOR

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Written by Emmy Award winning Executive Producer John Leekley and son of the legendary Edward James Olmos, Michael D. Olmos, drawn by Chris Moreno and overseen by founder of Spacedog Entertainment, Roger Mincheff– “Johnny Delgado Is Dead” is a modern day Zorro story told in the new hit comic book series produced by Spacedog, featuring support from the Harley-Davidson Motor Company.

“Johnny Delgado Is Dead” is a tale rooted in Mexican corridos. With three of the key contributors of Hispanic descent, they aimed to bring a new heroic Latino archetype to life in the comic book world, which has long been a space in which Latinos have been underserved. “Johnny Delgado Is Dead” centers on two friends who are bound by the code of brotherhood, loyalty and fate. Closer than brothers, one is destined to die and the other for revenge as a tale of corruption and murder unfolds along the US/Mexican Border.

“We initially approached Harley-Davidson because our hero is a modern day Zorro and today Zorro’s steed would be a Harley. Nothing else would have made sense,” says Roger Mincheff, President of Spacedog Entertainment. “There are brands that define a lifestyle. As our relationship developed, Harley’s rich brand helped us further develop the character of our hero. The ability to use that image lends authenticity to the lifestyle portrayed in this story.”

“After reviewing the project, we knew it was something that Harley-Davidson needed to support,” says Matt Schmidt, Entertainment Marketing Project Manager at Harley-Davidson. “The theme of brotherhood is at the heart of our brand.”

“I was immediately drawn to work on this project, attracted by its grounding in Latino culture and folklore. Inspired by the legends of Pancho Villa, Zapata, Joaquin Murrieta and Zorro, it was appealing to reinterpret these types of heroes into a modern-day story,” says Michael Olmos.

“To be able to create a graphic novel which reflects the richness of the Hispanic culture is exciting,” said Roger Mincheff. “But the book’s characters and its story of the fight for revenge and justice will transcend to audiences of all cultures.”

“Johnny Delgado Is Dead” is published through Top Cow Productions, which lends credibility in the traditional comic book space. Since 1992, Top Cow Productions has cemented itself as one of the leading comic book publishers in the business. With titles like “Lara Croft Tomb Raider,” “Witchblade,” “The Darkness” and “Wanted,” Top Cow has established itself as a pipeline for new stories that resonate with the comic book audience.

In addition to this project, Spacedog is currently in the midst of developing extensions of existing graphic novels including the creation of seven films at major motion picture and television studios and closing a multiple book deal with Random House.
