One of my all-time favorite Marvel characters is Doctor Strange, otherwise known as Doctor Stephen Strange. His ability to wield magic at a high level, while protecting the earth as the Sorcerer Supreme has always enamored me. I mean, possessing real magic and using it to defeat evil people is a great job! To me, in the MCU timeline, Benedict Cumberbatch, who is the actor playing Dr. Strange, has been in this role for quite a while now. He has starred in movies such as Star Trek and The Hobbit and the popular TV show Sherlock Holmes. With his popularity gaining in the last couple of years, Marvel could explore the option of finding his replacement in the upcoming phases.

Scarlet Witch

Wanda Maximoff, also called Scarlet Witch, is one of two children of Magneto, The other child is her brother, Quicksilver. Her first appearance in the comics is in X-Men #4.

She co-stars with the current Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Stephen Strange, in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel, Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness. Along with her Disney Plus show, Wandavision, Marvel is giving her a ton of exposure in the upcoming phases with the possibility of her becoming the next Sorcerer Supreme. Let's dive in and see why it is a possibility.

Wanda studied witchcraft under Agatha Harkness. Agatha is one of the original witches from the Salem Witch Trials. Her powers include teleportation, energy protection, the tapping of extra-dimensional energy by invoking entities or objects of power existing in dimensions tangential to Earth's through the recitation of spells.

Wanda can manipulate "Chaos magic" and wield other magic energies, Chaos magic is a genetic trait that was determined by demonic intervention. She can control probability to a ludicrous degree. Her powers have accidentally caused shifts in reality, creating multiple alternate worlds as a result. Hence, she is co-starring in the upcoming Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness!

Though there has not been a time where she actually had the title of Sorcerer Supreme, Marvel could change things up and make it happen.

Brother Voodoo

Jericho Drumm, also known as Brother Voodoo, made his first appearance in Strange Tales #169.

Powers he posses include, but are not limited to teleportation, healing,  wields pyrokinetic abilities, and is immune to all manner of fire, heat, and radiation. He has divine powers that include numerous mystical and quasi-physical powers derived from the Loa, the Spirit-Gods of Voodoo. He can manipulate magical/mystical Forces and elemental forces at his will. He can also summon mystical creatures to counter-attack magical attacks. He can hypnotize animals and plants. He has a mystic connection to his dead brother, Daniel. Voodoo can summon Daniel’s spirit from beyond the grave to increase his power, possess others, and occasionally affect small things in the physical world.

For a brief time, he had a cameo appearance as the Sorcerer Supreme in the New Avengers #53. His first full appearance and origin of becoming Doctor Voodoo is in the following issue, after accepting an offer from the Ancient One to become the Sorcerer Supreme. He was chosen by the Eye of Agamotto mainly due to his clean and pure soul. With the title, he does obtain the power of the Eye of Agamotto, the Cloak of Levitation and the Books of Knowledge, formerly in the possession of Doctor Strange.

Magik

Illyana Rasputin, also known as the magical Magik.  Her first appearance is very interesting, but just so you know, she has many based on how she is mentioned in the comics. With that, one of her early first appearances of Illyana Rasputin as a child is in Giant-Size X-men #1.

She has not been introduced into the MCU yet, but it could happen in two ways. She could be introduced along with the X-men, as she is the younger sister of Colossus. Conversely, the New Mutants movie is being released by Fox in the coming year or so, but the long-term plan could include her again in rebooting the team with Marvel spearing the project.

She has the mutant ability to teleport. In the confines of the limbo dimension that facilitates her teleportation, Magik absorbed the sorceress knowledge of several prominent mages, including an alternate-reality Storm, and became the Sorceress Supreme of that particular world. She remains deadly thanks to her eldritch armor, which makes her virtually invulnerable, and her Soulsword, a blade that can disrupt all magic and mutant abilities. Magik taught herself how to learn magic. She even briefly served as a pupil to Doctor Strange in the core reality, learning to control her powers better through their time together.

Illyana Rasputin has become the new Sorcerer Supreme after the death of Stephen Strange; tasked with guiding the future of magic for this world. In the series, Doctor Strange: The End, Stephen Strange is shown to be among the last magical beings in existence in his reality. With the future largely technological, Strange has watched as almost all other mystics have died out. In the end, it takes Doctor Strange himself walking into the magical flames, killing himself in the process, to be the final key to returning magic to the world.

It turns out Strange left a couple of other things for Illyana, too: Firstly, it's revealed that Illyana has been named the new Sorcerer Supreme in his stead, ensuring that she will become the chief protector of this world. It also turns out that he left the Sanctum Sanctorum to become a school of magic for the new generation of sorcerers -- the Rasputina Academy of Magic and Sorcery. Illyana has even been left in charge of the school, making her headmistress.

Could one of these be the replacement for the Sorcerer Supreme? Let me know in the comments below.
