Leave it to Ryan Reynolds to deliver the goods.

For years now, the actor has been teasing Deadpool’s arrival in the MCU with his trademark sarcasm. At last, Reynolds debuted the first teaser for Deadpool 3, complete with Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman.

POST-D23

There’s no argument that Disney’s D23 Expo was a major letdown for Marvel fans. To be fair, expectations were exceedingly high in the wake of San Diego Comic-Con’s internet-breaking announcements. Suffice it to say, the bar was being raised by the day.

Then…poof. I wouldn’t say D23 had nothing for Marvel fans – after all, we did see the Thunderbolts lineup, albeit a bit lackluster, and the Werewolf By Night trailer – but the big guns were left in their holsters. We didn’t get any Fantastic Four casting news or Blade updates, and there was no mention of the X-Men…again.

At least one of those points of contention has been remedied, and we’ll finally see Jackman sport his claws and pointy hair once again. Will he remain in the role past Deadpool 3? Not likely. Although the 53-year-old actor has teased his return to the role for years, he had said numerous times that his days in the X-Men ended with Logan. Sure, I would love to see a full Wolverine-Deadpool team-up flick, but my gut feeling is that’s not what we’re going to get. Still, it’s exciting to know that Jackman will suit up at least one more time in some capacity. That leaves me to believe that Deadpool 3 will be his swan song, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Reynolds trolls us all with a throwaway Wolverine cameo.

Usually, I would bemoan pulling a joke on the audience, but in this case, it would work. By all accounts, Taron Egerton will be the MCU’s one and only Logan. He’s confirmed he’s had talks with Marvel Studios, and he’s been the odds-on favorite for years now.

X-SPEC

It’s been a mutant-centric week for the MCU. When Namor arrives in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, he has been confirmed to be a mutant, which follows his comic book origins. Now that Wolverine is officially coming to the MCU, it leaves the door wide open for plenty of X-Men comic speculation. Obviously, the major keys will be the first to feel the heat, but the first meeting between Deadpool and Wolverine will catch fire shortly.

WOLVERINE #88

This has been a long time coming. Wolverine has been teased for a Deadpool movie since the first installment in 2016. After Disney acquired Fox and all its intellectual properties, Reynolds began campaigning for Jackman to join him on screen. Now that it’s finally coming to fruition, collectors will be on the hunt for Wolverine #88. In this 1994 issue, the Merc with a Mouth first squared off with Logan, and it will be a red hot issue soon.

Of course, it’s not like it’s been cold. Thanks to all the teases, the graded 9.8 has sold for as much as $815 in the past year. At the moment, the 30-day average sits at $315, but yesterday saw it hitting $400+. While the 9.6 is the cheaper option, it’s bordering on $200 itself, which is the real indication that this issue is poised to take off.
