It's hard sneaking up on a Rattle Snake (unless you're Kid Colt!) It's even harder to "sneaky move" up the Golden Age Charts for months and not have anyone blog about it (at least none I'm aware of)!  Sneaky Moves Blog #7 addresses the "western trend" of sneaky moves for the past few months.  So, put on your spurs, saddle your horse, and make sure you are wearing some flannel because sneaky moves are heading west(ern)! Rustle Up Some Comics!

There are hundreds of Golden Age Western titles available for potential collection and investment.  We'll focus on the ones making the consistent and stunning moves up the Golden Age chart, those titles with "kid" in them.  That is Kid Colt, Two-Gun Kid, and Durango Kid!

A whopping thirteen "kid" comics made significant movement in the top 500 Golden Age chart.  Averaging more than 500 spots up the chart per title, the western "kid" comics are the EXACT qualifications for sneaky moves.  Kid Colt leads the way with four comics in the top 40 Golden Age Comics.  Leading our Wagons west is Kid Colt #2.  Issues #13, #23, and #26 follow close behind.  GoCollect lists 11 sales of issue #2 with a CGC 6.5 selling at Heritage Auctions in January for $528; which is up significantly from the last CGC sale of $179!

Silver Age Western Seeing Sneaky Movement Too!

There are also 13 "Kid" titles in the top 300 of the Silver Age list as well.  So, it is safe to say that many western titles from the Golden and Silver Ages are seeing outstanding investment interest.  A copy of Two-Gun Kid #29 CGC 5.5 sold for $168 at auction in February.  This shows consistent and sustained interest in Western Comics.  Time to pay attention to the Western Comic genre.  There are a lot of potential investments, but just as many financial pitfalls as well.  I mean, for every Kid Cold success there's a Johnny Mack Brown failure.  (Hmmm.  Sounds like a Western Sneaky Moves Part 2 Blog sometime in the future, yeehaw!

Well, Partner, What Western Titles Should I Look For?

There are too many potential titles to invest or NOT invest in to fill this blog.  That will have to come in a potential part 2 blog!  However, some titles will consistently yield positive returns in the right grade.  Remember, the condition is everything!  More so with Western Comics.  Why?  Western Comics experience far more abuse than other comic genres.  Golden and Silver Age Westerns live in the lower grade tiers because they get passed around, hang around barns, are folded in half in back pockets, and are stored in hot dusty places.  Finding high-grade Western Comics is tough.  Consider paying a premium when you find them.  Keep that $528 CGC 6.5 Kid Colt comic in mind!

So you don't go blindly bidding on Western Comics, focus on Golden Age Marvel, Timely, Atlas, and DC titles.  Kid Colt Outlaw, Rawhide Kid, Two-Gun Kid, All-Star Western are a few titles to look for.  Kirby and Simon's Boy's Ranch from Harvey is another title to look for.

Hopefully, this will you get you started when looking at Western Comics.  Now, hitch your wagon to Sneaky Moves: Western Comics part 2 and hold onto your ten-gallon hat!
