With all things ‘Immortal Hulk’ currently absorbing the attention of comic book fans, now we get a new twist on future Marvel plans for the Hulk family. According to the latest rumors, see here, the upcoming Disney+ streaming service is planning to release a Hulk/She-Hulk TV show starring no less a figure than the big-screen MCU incarnation of Bruce Banner, Mr. Mark Ruffalo. This news, if confirmed, will undoubtedly result in some even bigger spikes than we’ve already seen for the first issue of the She-Hulk comic.

The gossip goes that Mark Ruffalo will take up his role as Banner/Hulk (Professor Hulk?) in a small screen streaming show and the new Hulk series will eventually give way to She-Hulk taking over and with all of it somehow directly connected to the wider MCU. Even if these do end up being just rumors, that doesn't change the fact that prices on She-Hulk #1 are already surging. Sales over the last few days show strong prices already hovering at the $400.00 mark.

Truth be told, I can’t say I’m at all surprised.

Given the growth in prices on other female hero led titles in recent years (Wonder Woman, Black Widow and Mrs. Marvel immediately come to mind, but there are others), I’ve been patiently waiting for this book to see its day. Realize however, that the new rumors give no time line and it could be years before She-Hulk ever appears, nonetheless the mere suggestion seems to have been enough to push She-Hulk’s book to new highs.

She Hulk #1 (January 1980) - Origin of She-Hulk; First appearance of She-Hulk

Created by Stan Lee and John Buscema, the She-Hulk was originally an attempt to secure marketing rights to any potential female Hulk-character that could be used on television. She-Hulk was one of the very last original creations of Lee. In the comic, Jennifer Walters is a cousin of Bruce Banner who acquires his Hulk powers after a blood transfusion. As a unique combination of brains and brawn, She-Hulk can be viewed as the original ‘professor Hulk’- even if Walters was a lawyer and not a scientist. If Marvel does produce a Hulk series, it will interesting to see if they allow Banner to portray Professor Hulk and also how faithfully they will follow the comic regarding She-Hulk’s origin.

In early January values on this comic stood as follows:

9.8 FMV = $325.00
9.6 FMV = $140.00
9.4 FMV = $100.00
9.2 FMV = $85.00

Today the same grades have a FMV of:

9.8 FMV = $400.00
9.6 FMV = $200.00
9.4 FMV = $150.00
9.2 FMV = $120.00

That’s the Marvel magic at work. Just before the announcements, prices were already trending up on this book in all higher grades. The 12 week average for sales, looked as follows:

9.8 was up +16.2% after 40 sales
9.6 up +8.6% after 43 sales
9.4 up +9.8% after 15 sales, and
9.2 up +19.1% after 7 sales.

There are currently 4,718 copies of She-Hulk #1 listed on the CGC census. The last 5 sales of certified blue label 9.8 copies on eBay all sold on April 14, 2019 for final sales prices of: $399.99, $399.95, $379.00, 386.99 and $440.00.

If you picked up copies of this book years or even months ago, it will feel good to see the value of your purchase increase. If you don’t have a copy of She-Hulk #1 yet, there's still time to scoop up a copy. You better hurry however, don't get left behind and then become green with envy over those who acted quickly.
