Avengers Annual #10If the latest rumors are to be trusted, the first mutant in the MCU will be Rogue, so get her keys before things get out of hand.

The word on the internet is that Rogue will oppose Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel 2. Of course, this isn’t necessarily a new rumor. The first time I read it, I was skeptical. After all, Marvel Studios - at least in the Spider-Man movies - has been avoiding rehashing characters that were featured in other franchises. Obviously, Marvel can’t ignore every character Fox used in its X-Men franchise; that would leave us with an X-Men movie starring Jubilee, Maggot, and Stacy X.

Still, I didn’t expect Rogue to be the first X-Men in the MCU. While nothing has been made official, there are too many different sites reporting that Rogue will appear as a villain in Captain Marvel 2 for it to be dismissed.

From a storytelling standpoint, this makes perfect sense. In the comics, this is how Rogue gained her powers of flight and superstrength. This could also set up Carol Danvers’ transition to Binary and Monica Rambeau taking over as Captain Marvel, but that’s a post for another day. For now, let’s delve deeper into the Rogue keys you’ll want to add to your collection.

Avengers Annual #10AVENGERS ANNUAL #10

Initially a villain, Rogue made her first appearance in Avengers Annual #10 as part of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. In the pages of that issue, Rogue used her mutant ability to absorb Carol’s powers, though she held on too long, absorbing Carol’s memories and nearly killing her.

The only grade that’s priced high at the moment is the 9.8. For the past 90 days, it has averaged $372. Values are on the rise as the last two sales, both on February 6, were for $375 and $425.

If you don’t want to shell out close to $400, you can opt for the 9.6, which has averaged $125 for the past three months. Beyond that, everything from a 9.4 and below is bringing less than $100, so there’s plenty of options to fit your budget.

Two years after her debut, Chris Claremont wrote her into the X-Men, where she would gain a large following. She made her X-Men debut in Uncanny X-Men #158, and it is an issue that no Rogue fan will want to be without.

This issue is on the move, but prices aren’t too crazy just yet. A 9.8 has a 90-day fair market value of $158, which is up $20 from 2018. If you want something in the $50 range, everything from the 9.6 and under will fit that price cap.

If you’re building Rogue’s gallery (I had to do it), you can’t ignore it when she officially became a member of the X-Men. Personally, I like the X-Men cover tradition of having a new member being chased down by the team with the caption, “Welcome to the X-Men...hope you survive the experience.”

The best part is it’s a fairly inexpensive issue to have, although prices are starting to pick up. Take the 9.8. So far this year, there’s only been three sales, but two of those were for $95.
