Captain The current Captain Marvel series has been nothing short of key issues. Many new characters and plots have been introduced in the series that debuted in January 2019. Marvel is making good work in promoting this character knowing her movie sequel is coming out in a couple of years. Though, for this issue, the focus will be on a character that was the main individual at the beginning of this series. The character I am mentioning is Ripley Ryan. She is a new character that made her debut in the current Captain Marvel series. She is a character to watch and keep an eye on in the upcoming years. Below are her key issues to consider grabbing.

Captain Marvel #1

Captain Marvel #1 is the debut issue of the series and an issue for an important character. This issue debuts the first appearance of Ripley Ryan. This debut issue came with multiple variants, including a 1:100 variant virgin cover by Adi Granov and another ratio variant by Adam Hughes. In addition, the issue is part of a Walmart three-issue variant pack. Ryan is a big part of the beginning arc, as her story takes up the first eleven issues of this series.

Ripley Ryan is just an ordinary character in the series until she started to participate in Kree experiments so she could gain powers. She would survive the experiments, but would not gain any powers. She would be siphoned powers from Captain Marvel when Danvers defeated a Kraken that was attacking New York City. This Kraken had a virus in its blood, which was engineered by Minn-Erva.

Ryan would be getting her powers from Danvers as she was infected with the virus. Upon receiving powers, Ryan would go by the superhero name of Star. Ripley would try to become allies with Captain Marvel, but she refused. In the end, the situation got worse between then. Captain Marvel #10 marks the first battle between Captain Marvel and Star, as the two goliaths dueled it out. Danvers needs to defeat Ryan as she has infected the city of New York with the virus from the Kraken. In the end, Danvers got the best between the two of them and sent Ryan to the Raft. The Raft is a super-maximum security prison for super-powered villains. This ship is run and operated by S.H.I.E.LD.

Captain Marvel #8

Captain Marvel #8 is another key issue. This issue is notable as the first appearance of Star. Another key issue with many variants and multiple printings. The price of these issues is way more than the cover price, including the third print variant. The third print variant is the coveted one of all the issues, as it has a Fair Market Value (FMV) for a 9.8 graded copy selling for $150. It is currently valued higher than any of the first print issues.

Staying Power

Another reason for long term staying power for Ryan is what happened after her defeat from Captain Marvel. She interacts with Marvel household names such as Jessica Jones, Loki, and Scarlet Witch. Lastly, her connection with the Reality Stone could present more appearances in the future for this character. Ryan has merged with the Reality Stone and has inherited the power to alter reality. Her power is coveted by many individuals and now is a person of interest due to her superpowers.
