The Incredible Hercules #112 (used to be Incredible Hulk)
Marvel Comics
Pak, Van Lente, Pham & Peru

Well, I gave it a shot. I have now read exactly two issues of the Hercules and Cho comic. I think that is enough to make a judgment and that being: I don’t like it that much to stay with it. Overall this issue is fairly good and entertaining to some degree, but I just don’t care enough about the characters to keep going with this.

We begin with Angel and Namora taking some type of SHIELD amnesty for their role in World War Hulk, while Cho wants to keep up the fight and Hercules is stuck in a daze thinking over all the garbage that has happened in his life. We get some of his origin and a lot of the bad decisions he’s made over his ancient life. The government is not willing to just give amnesty to Cho and Hercules. They want them to work off their debt.

Hercules convinces Cho to give up and they get hauled in. Hercules is put in front of Ares, his brother, who brings us more of Hercules’ past failures. Eventually, Hercules gets angry and gives up the “I’ll turn myself in” bit. Cho, is being instructed to use his brain to figure out a plan to help out the refugees with the government’s funds when Hercules crashes in and rescues him.

The remainder of the issue is Hercules and Cho on the run from SHIELD. Cho lifted a SHIELD agent’s laptop with the plan being to use it against SHIELD.

Pretty cut and dry issue. Hercules tries to give up, but is reminded by his own brother that he doesn’t just go the “right” way. Cho stays true to his rebel character. We get a lot of background on Hercules, mostly mythology information, that will probably be relevant in building up the Ares versus Hercules fight. And that’s about the whole issue.

As I stated, it’s fairly entertaining and I’d imagine if you really like Cho or Hercules you’ll stick with this series and be quite happy with the outcome. I am not a big fan of Hercules or Cho. They were okay sideshows to the Hulk, but that is all they will be for me.

The artwork is on par with Incredible Hulk series. The character depictions are right on target with what we saw of Cho and Hercules over the past eight months. It’s consistent art.

Overall, this comic was a nice read. The only problem is I just really care what happens to these two.
