Star Wars Dark Times #7
Dark Horse Comics
Harrison, Ross, Antonio

Kind of a boring installment for this arc. Until, we find out the two storylines are tied together with a child, thought to be dead. Nope, I'm not talking about Bomo's kid either.

This issue begins with Bomo having thoughts (nightmares really) about the choices he's made that help contribute to leaving his family open to capture and, ultimately, death. Bomo makes his way to the main area of the Uhumele to find the crew devising a plan of some kind. Basically, the crew has some type of cargo that they are trying to sell to shady folks. This is leading them to hatch a scheme to ensure they get paid and stay alive. Bomo, while told of the overall plan, still has no idea what this cargo is.

Bomo, slightly offended, is left without a role. He is invited for some coffee and to have a heart to heart with a member of the crew, Crys. We learn the origin of Crys. Basically, her son, Kennan, was taken from her by a Jedi. Their planet was knee deep in war and with no sure path to evacuation, the option of her letting her son leave with the Jedi to become a padawan seemed like a good idea. The Jedi who took him died shortly after her son was loaded onto a ship and of course, Kennan was presumed dead as a result of the purge. Not a happy story.

Bomo and Crys come at odds when Bomo tries to tell Crys that the Jedi, Jennir, was a good guy. Even though Bomo is mad at Jennir you can tell he misses him. He probably feels a bit lost without him at this point.

Flash to K'Kruhk and the younglings he rescued in the last issue and low and behold, but one of them is Kennan! It appears that K'Kruhk and the younglings are playing some Swiss Family Robinson.

The issue wraps up with the crew of the Uhumele presenting the "package" to the buyers, Haka Hai and his buddy, Lumbra. Madness breaks out as Lumbra crosses Haka and the Uhumele bunch come out guns a blazing.

Basically, this issue was fairly tame. We advance some of the K'Kruhk mystery and we learn something about one of the crew of the Uhumele, but there are a lot of crew and I am sure they all have a twisted story to tell. I would have liked more advancement in the story about the "package". The characters and their interactions still seem very unclear of distant to me.

I enjoyed the artwork very much. The cast of aliens is fantastic. I don’t remember ever seeing K'Kruhk with his hat off, but that was interesting.

In short, this is as good an issue to jump on as any. You don’t see much Jedi here, but you get some story and a ton of aliens. As a fan of the series, this one of the weaker issues, which makes it good and not great. I expect great.

3 out of 5 geek goggles.
