Green Lantern Corps #19
DC Comics
Tomasi, Gleason & Rollins

The Sinestro Corps War Epilogue issue comes out the same week as the finale of the war. Note: Read Green Lantern #25, then the Ion issue and then this one. This issue does a nice loop around the Green Lantern universe to give the overview of where the participants are after the war. We don’t have much action, but some of the characters are moved up a bit in terms of development and we get a major jump at the end into the next story.

We begin with Guy and Kyle bonding. Guy asked Kyle what it was like to be Parallax. Kyle gives some insight into what it was like to be responsible for killing friends and not being able to control yourself. This was an interesting discussion and one I don’t think we’d really gotten from the Parallax one-shot. Finally, Guy softens up and welcomes Kyle as his partner. It’s a nice way to launch these two into the next phase for them.

Then Guy finds his girlfriend Ice. Apparently Ice has been dead (who knew?) and now she is back. Guy wants to pick up the relationship, while Ice wants to be undead for a while before just carrying on as if nothing happened. We see how Guy can be an old softy.

Then we leap around the universe to get different Lantern’s perspectives on how they are handling life after the war. Kilowog has some dinner with this family (who knew he had little kids?) while vacationing on Mogo. Mogo appears to be all repaired. Vath gets wasted while toasting to each and every fallen Lantern. Apparently some 430+ Lanterns died. A lot but, still less than 10% of the total Corps, if there are 7200 in it. Vath toasting the dead has his wife bored out of her mind, while Vath’s partner celebrates the victory by taunting the Sinestro leftovers.

Others we visit are the princess, Iolande, Salaak cooking up some new rings and Natu making a bionic arm for some Lantern rookie. We wrap up the lap around the Lanterns with Guy playing some darts and Kyle contemplating a new job for his secret identity. Also, Stel and Green Man (I think its Green Man) are pursuing a Sinestro dude in a ship. He gets away.

The Sinestro lackey crashes his ship on a random world. While he is telling his dying tale to a passerby, the passerby snaps his neck and takes his ring. The passerby happens to be Mongul and my man is mad. This sets us up for the next issue.

This issue is a great wrap and jump on point all in one. I liked the jumping around to random Lanterns while keeping focus on Guy and Kyle, whom this title will probably revolve around. The artwork was excellent, with the exception of Iolande. She looked like a maid and not a princess to me. Anyway, this issue was outstanding visually. I particularly liked the rings being produced and Mongul.

Overall, one of my favorite issues from this title and this title has seen a lot in its nineteen issues so far. I was wondering what this title would be like without the war going on and I think its safe to say it will keep up the great story telling through character interaction until the next crossover.

5 out of 5 geek goggles.
