Media Release -- Nearly a hundred square miles of rural wilderness, Briggs Land harbors the largest and most secretive antigovernment secessionist movement in the United States. When matriarch Grace Briggs wrests control of the operation from her incarcerated husband, she sparks a war within the community — and her immediate family — that threatens to bring the full power of the federal government down on their heads.

Jim Briggs, incarcerated for the best part of the last two decades from domestic terrorism charges, has entered into negotiations with the New York State DA’s office to sell the entirety of Briggs Land to the government in exchange for an immediate release and a cash payout. The Land represents billions of dollars in fracking leases, real estate development, and public works.

Two agents from the ATF have been tasked to the area to observe activity around the Land, to have eyes on the Land while these delicate negotiations are taking place. One of these agents, Daniel Zigler, has an intense personal interest in the Briggs family, something he’s managed to keep a secret from his boss.

Grace Briggs, having married into the Briggs family as a teenager, has lived it long enough to see the potential good buried under the layers of corruption, extremism, racism, and regressive social attitudes. Her mission is to deny her husband the deal he’s seeking, and to rehabilitate Briggs Land along with her sons Caleb, Isaac, and Noah into something that both honors its traditions and protects its citizens as they head into an uncertain future.
