We’re BIG fans of Chew here at TFAW. We have been since the beginning. That’s why we’re excited to bring you an exclusive 22-page First Look of Chew Vol. 2, care of our friends at Image Comics. Please Note: The preview for this book contains some adult language. Parental discretion is advised.
If you’re unfamiliar with Chew, here’s what you need to know about the series. The book centers around FDA Agent Tony Chu. Since the bird flu hit, chicken has been outlawed in the U.S. The FDA is now the most powerful agency in the country, charged with hunting down black-market growers, dealers and consumers.
Tony is a cibopath, so when he takes a bite of something, he gets a mental picture of the history of that product. When he eats an apple, he can see where it was grown, what pesticides were used on the crop and whether or not the apple was dropped on the supermarket floor. Tony can tell whether a cook washed his hands, or if he cut himself while chopping up the ingredients for a pot of soup. You can just imagine the difficulty he has eating.
Tony’s gift is his reason for being with the Agency. His job requires him to eat the most heinous things you can imagine, including decaying bodies. Yeah. This book rules.
Throw in a great supporting cast of characters (some of which have unique gifts of their own), terrifically witty dialogue by John Layman, and funky, cool artwork by Rob Guillory, and you’ve got an unpredictable roller-coaster ride that is Chew.
