A month after Marvel Studios set the collecting world on fire at D23, Savage She-Hulk #1 is feeling the heat from the news of her Disney+ series with several issues setting new record highs.

We all knew She-Hulk was eventually coming to the MCU in one fashion or another. After being rumored for either the large or small screen for the past year, it was confirmation for the legions of She-Hulk fans when the superhero lawyer was announced for her own series on the upcoming Disney+ streaming service.

Since then, the fallout has led to a huge boost in sales volume for what was already a hot comic. On the plus side, prices haven’t become completely outrageous like we’ve seen with Moon Knight’s first appearance in Werewolf by Night #32. Still, many grades are setting the sales bar higher, and it's only begun.

BROKEN RECORDS

Following Marvel Studio’s D23 panel back on August 23, collectors and investors were scrambling for She-Hulk’s first appearance. Most buyers have been looking for the near-mint grades, and it’s no surprise that the 9.8 has been the hottest seller. After carrying a 12-month average of $391, prices ballooned last month, culminating in a $610 sale on August 30.

The 9.6 and 9.4 haven’t broken any record sales, but their fair market values are climbing weekly. For the past year, the 9.6 had a $185 FMV, and it has consistently brought in the $200-$300 range following D23. One 9.4 sold for $465 on September 3, but that appears to be an outlier at this point considering that the rest of the issues sold for that grade were closer to the $150-$200 range.

The 9.2 set a new record when an August 30 sale netted a $210 sale after it had averaged $117 for the past year. The 9.0 actually sold for a higher price when one brought $221 on August 23.

In all, seven of the 11 different grades that have sold since D23 have set new record high sales, including the 8.5, 7.5, 6.5, and the 5.5. The 8.5 brought $159 on September 14, while the 7.5  garnered $120 on August 23. Also on the 23rd, the 6.5 brought $75 and nearly matched it with a $70 sale a month later. Rounding out the record-setting grades, the 5.5 sold for $76 on August 31.

THE D23 EFFECT

Clearly, the two biggest announcements from D23 were Moon Knight and She-Hulk, and it’s hard not to compare the two. However, it’s not a surprise that Moon Knight’s debut is commanding the higher prices. It had a smaller print run (after all, he premiered in what was a fledgling series, for the most part, and he wasn’t necessarily an instant success, either), and the hardcore Moon Knight fans were ravenous for him to get the live-action treatment. Still, She-Hulk’s sales volume is shining, and it will only grow as we get closer to a series premiere.

WHAT’S TO COME?

As I wrote about Moon Knight, I’ll write again here: wait for the trailer. The build-up for a popular character’s debut inevitably leads to inflated prices. Odds are they will plateau leading up to the trailer, then they will spike again the week of the series premiere. After that, it all depends on the show’s reception as to whether or not the balloon will pop.
