2020 has been a year to remember! Worldwide, we are going through a pandemic that has put people in difficult positions, even in the comic book industry. Publishers are still pumping out books not knowing if fans can afford it during these times. I cannot say if the sales suggest we have been in a decline this year, but man, they have been delivering a plethora of issues involving a character's first appearance. In one series, in general, Captain Marvel has been on fire in introducing new characters into the Marvel universe.

WHO IS OVE?

The current Captain Marvel series has received tons of attention this year where many issues have debuted new characters in the Marvel universe. Captain Marvel #23 is an issue of Marvel royalty. This issue debuts the first appearance of Ove. Ove is the offspring of two notable Marvel characters. His father is Namor the Submariner and his mother is Amora the Enchantress, an evil sorcerer from Asgard. Namor is a character for Marvel that was created in the 1930s! He is the ruler of Atlantis and has many ties to notable characters such as Silver Surfer, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Professor X, and many more.

NEW ATLANTIS

Ove exists in a future timeline where the world is destroyed, except for his own. The world I am referring to is the underwater paradise known as New Atlantis. He is the current ruler of New Atlantis. Namor was killed by a faction of petty humans. This was due to Namor not joining in their conquest in protecting the world since he decided to stay underwater and protect his kingdom.

Ove has the blood of his father and mother, and comes with that is the powers he inherited from his parents. He has the mind control and manipulating abilities from his mom. He also has the ability to live underwater, which comes from his father. Currently, he uses his mind control ability to trick heroes such as  Luke Cage, Armor, and Kolt, while trapping  Magik into doing his bidding for his underwater empire. In essence, he is using other superheroes to power and build New Atlantis into his image.

Notably, even though he is half-Atlantean and half-Asgardian, his mixed qualities do not make him fit in ruling the original Atlantis. In addition, being a half-breed, he is not welcomed to Asgard and is considered an outcast. With that, Ove finds the need to build his new underwater empire in the ruins of New York.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Ove has the makings of a great villain going forward. He is even more lethal as a character with his mother at his side and her ability to control and manipulate people's minds. His lineage makes him a very powerful character with abilities that have yet to be revealed yet. It will be interesting to see how Marvel can fit this character into a current timeline. Also, if they decide to establish Ove as a friend or foe. For now, he is set on wreaking havoc on Captain Marvel and friends on building his underwater empire.
