When it comes to oddball characters, the Green Lantern Corps has an endless supply. With the potential for many of these weirdos to arrive in the GLC show, it’s time to spotlight them in the Oddball of the Week.

Since there’s not much to say about each individual character, today’s Oddball Award is a group effort. The hardest part was narrowing the list down to only three, but it’s just that weirdness factor with so many quirky characters that makes the Green Lanterns perfect for James Gunn’s vision of the DCU.

Recently, Gunn debunked a report that the HBO Max show, Green Lantern Corps, was no longer in development. He’s also said that the Lanterns will be a major part of his 10-year plan. Put it together, and it sounds like we’ll be seeing more than just the Lanterns of Earth. With that in mind, let’s take a look at three of the strangest members of the corps.

MOGO

First Appearance: Green Lantern #188

Marvel has Ego the Living Planet, but DC’s sentient world is actually on the side of good. In fact, he’s the largest and possibly the most powerful Green Lantern of them all. Introduced in 1985 among a swath of strange new Lanterns, Mogo has become an integral member of the Corps while many of the others fell into obscurity.

Using its many natural resources, Mogo can do just about anything. At one point, it even cleansed the Red Lantern toxicity from Guy Gardner’s body.

CH’P

First Appearance: Green Lantern #148

Quite possibly the cutest member of the Corps, we have Ch’P. He’s got a more cartoon feel than most other Lanterns, and that is likely by design. However, his origin story is anything but a kid’s show.

His planet was being overrun by the Crabster Army, and Ch’P led a resistance against them. When he was captured, they sentenced the adorable chipmunk to death. It was then that he was rescued by the Guardians of the Universe and given a Green Lantern ring to protect his sector.

GALIUS ZED

First Appearance: Tales of the Green Lantern Corps #2

Similar to Marvel’s MODOK, we have Galius Zed, who is basically a giant head with arms and legs. Only this guy is an alien, and that’s simply how his species looks. Generally speaking, he hasn’t played a major role in the Green Lantern mythos. Then again, with so many Lanterns, it’s hard to find time to spotlight each one with their own stories. Galius’ biggest moments came in his death. First, his giant head was blasted to pieces by a Sinestro Corps sniper in The Sinestro Corps War. When he was resurrected in Blackest Night, his decaying giant head looked great as a zombie.

CALLING ALL LANTERNS

When the first Green Lantern movie hit theaters, there was so much that disappointed GL fans. One of the biggest complaints was that the film only teased the thousands of Corps members from across the universe. Being a two-hour movie, it’s harder to include so many characters, but a show is the perfect place to feature some of the more interesting Lanterns. With so many different GLs in the ranks, there’s no telling which ones we’ll see.
