Welcome back to this week’s Oddball Heritage Items! Each week, we look at the unique items in Heritage’s weekly comic event auctions — after all, there is a treasure or two to be found in these auctions! In the past, we’ve looked at a wide range of fun and unique items such as napkins, toy lots, spinner racks, and more. There’s always something new and unusual in these weekly auctions, so let’s see what we can find this week!

Vintage Superman 300 Piece Puzzle

The Man of Steel shows off his super strength on this puzzle, which pulls from the infamous Action Comics #1 cover. This puzzle from 1940 was a part of a series of puzzles, each showing different aspects of Superman's powers. While the image of the complete puzzle is in black and white, the puzzle itself is full color. This specific example has noticeable wear, but Heritage notes that it still presents well.

A similar puzzle in much better condition sold on Hakes for $825 in 2015. Other puzzles from the series have sold for prices hovering at around $300 since 2011, so I don't think this puzzle will command top dollar -- but, we could all be surprised. This is still a unique piece and should not be overlooked.

Factory Seales Marvel Universe Series II Trading Card Box

Here's something you don't see every day. This factory-sealed Marvel Universe Series II trading card box contains brand new, unopened packs of cards that could be an investor's dream, or make one collector very happy. This is the follow-up series to the Marvel Universe trading card set from 1990 and contains 36 packs with 12 cards inside. Some of the cards can get serious money on auction sites. In September of 2022, a PSA 10 Puma card sold for $200, while others hover around the $100 mark.

Trading cards are highly collectible, with certain ones going for tens of thousands of dollars. While you may not see that kind of money from this box, it's still a cool piece for hopeful bidders.

The Boondocks Proposal Press Kit

Before audiences got to see The Boondocks on Adult Swim, the series was a popular newspaper cartoon. This press kit from 1999 was sent to newspapers across the United States, pitching the series to editors in hopes of being picked up. By now most of us are familiar with the series, so it's safe to say the pitch worked.

Proposal kits are common with almost all forms of media and can be a unique collector's item. This kit contains a folder featuring a rendering of the characters by creator Aaron McGruder, a letter to newspaper editors, a one-sheet with character information, sample cartoons, and more. This is a really cool item for Boondock's fans or anyone who appreciates newspaper cartoons.

Doctor Who Leela Mego Doll

Doctor Who and his various companions have been delighting audiences worldwide for generations. Each Doctor and companion has their own unique style and personality, and the series has managed to stay relevant. Leela was the Fourth Doctor's companion but only appeared in nine episodes from 1977 -1978. Yet despite being in a handful of episodes, Leela was still given the merchandise treatment.

This Mego doll from 1977 measures 9.5" tall, and is a rare find. Two recently sold on eBay in August and September of 2022 for $350 and $355 respectively, so expect this doll to go for around there. Mego toys themselves are highly collectible, with many superhero Mego's commanding top dollar at auctions. Heritage notes this doll as being in Fine condition.
