Welcome back to this week’s Oddball Heritage Items! Each week, we look at the unique items in Heritage’s weekly comic event auctions — after all, there is a treasure or two to be found in these auctions! In the past, we’ve looked at a wide range of fun and unique items such as napkins, toy lots, spinner racks, and more.

Collection of Batman Memorabilia

Batmania has been around for decades. The caped crusader has been on a myriad of items -- toys, school supplies, clothing, Power Wheels, and more. DC recognized Batman's merchandising powers from the get-go, and even changed their company name to Detective Comics. This lot features a number of vintage Batman items, including pins, keychains, and toys.

These items appear to be from the mid-sixties through the early nineties and vary in condition. Finding an accurate price point on this lot is fairly difficult. The pins of Batman and Robin are the centerpiece of this lot. These pins were a part of a line of higher-end jewelry, and are very hard to come by. A set sold on Etsy for $150 fairly recently.

Amazing Marvel Super Heroes Flexi Rings Insert Card

Here's a cool and rare piece of marketing merchandise -- an Amazing Marvel Super Heroes Flexi-Ring card with all of the rings on it! This card would have been inserted in a gumball machine advertising the rings, which we sometimes still see today. This piece from 1966 is a true gem and would be a great addition to any collection.

These flexi-rings are fairly rare, with a handful of loose ones on eBay being offered for $229 all the way up to $3,000. These rings and card are shrink-wrapped, so they are in mint condition.

Marvel Super Hero Spider-Man Tin Friction Car

These era-defining tin friction toy cars are just plain cool. You can tin friction cars for a number of characters, including Speed Racer, Batman, The Flintstones, and of course, Spider-Man. This friction toy car by Marx Toys was released in 1968 and is one of the harder friction cars to find -- meaning it's highly collectible.

Heritage notes that the friction motor no longer works, but if you're a collector and just want a display piece, you certainly can't do any worse. In October 2022 a similar Spider-Man car sold on eBay for $639 after 30 bids.

Ben Cooper Iron Man Costume

I'm a big fan of Ben Cooper costumes, and for as long as I've been covering Heritage Auctions -- this is one of the few times I've seen them offer one for auction! This complete in-box Iron Man costume from 1966 is one of the harder costumes to find. A similar Iron Man sold on eBay for $30 after one bid, but that was for the mask only.

This costume is noted as being in otherwise Excellent condition, while the box has some minor wear and tear. For the right collector, this could be a steal!
