Media Release — July 1, 2009 – SAN DIEGO, CA – LAST SON, the new independent documentary film about Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, will screen at the 2009 Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival on Saturday, July 25 from 7:35-8:50 p.m. in Room 26AB.
Last Son is the highly anticipated, unauthorized documentary film about Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the two creators of Superman. Painstakingly researched for five years, Last Son throws out all the boring old mistruths and oversimplified stories in favor of a sharp, oftentimes shocking new take on how The Man of Steel was created during hard times and dark days in Depression-era Cleveland.
Done in a non-commerical, DIY style, Last Son attempts to mimic Joe and Jerry’s own misunderstood process in an attempt to finally understand it. Incorporating previously undiscovered artifacts, newly unearthed art, and poignant unseen movies of Joe, Jerry, and the 1941 World’s Fair, Last Son tells a story of unbearable loss leading to a character designed to save the real world, not a fictional one. Now, for the first time, a man in blue tights and a spitcurl can begin to make sense.
The film reveals many new facts:
* Was the first Superman story stolen? Yes.
* Who was the real Lois Lane? Last Son is the first to have proof.
* Was Superman based on a real person? Yes – and he was bulletproof.
* Was Jerry’s father really murdered in a hail of gunfire? You can’t even begin to guess the truth behind this ongoing (and deeply important) mystery.
These questions and many more are answered definitively by Last Son, which does something no one has tried in seventy years to do: uncover the real secret origin of Superman.
