It's hard to believe we are at the final ComicConnect auction of the year. This year, the popular auction house has sold millions of dollars worth of comics, posters, VHS', and video games. For their final auction of the year, they're giving collectors a spread of hard-to-find video games across all eras. I've picked out a few of my favorite modern video games, perfect for collectors looking to get the perfect holiday gift for someone -- even if that person is you!

Final Fantasy XIII

The 13th installment in the legendary Final Fantasy series takes players back into the floating world of Cocoon where we meet Lightning, a former soldier who is trying to save her sister's life from their corrupt government. Featuring stunning graphics, an out-of-this-world soundtrack, and an easy-to-play battle system, FFXIII sold over one million copies on launch day in Japan. Over 10 million copies have sold worldwide, prompting Square to make two direct sequels.

This sealed  9.4 A+ WATA-graded copy is almost perfect, but thanks to the lower high score, this will be more affordable for collectors. The one-year average on similarly graded copies is $400. If you're an investor looking into this game, you may do well with it -- but you will be sitting on it for a while.

Metal Gear Solid 5

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, is the fifth installment in the Metal Gear line that started in 1987, with the first Metal Gear game released on the MSX home computer. MG is one of the most popular franchises of all time, selling over 57 million units worldwide as of September 2021. Because of the game's universal appeal, there have been Metal Gear comic books, a radio drama, and countless toys. Metal Gear Solid V was Hideo Kojima's final game at Konami. Kojima was instrumental in creating the first (and subsequent) Metal Gear games.

This sealed 9.4 A+ WATA-graded copy is close to perfect but without the 9.8 price tag. Metal Gear is a game both collectors and investors can get behind, as there will always be some kind of interest. With this being Kojima's last Metal Gear game, this is a collector's piece. There currently is no sales data on graded Metal Gear Solid V games.

Yakuza

Sega's Yakuza game is a rare treat. Masterfully blending action-adventure, beat 'em' up, and role-playing game tropes into one game, Yakuza became a fan favorite almost instantly. The game became so popular in Japan that it spawned books, movies, a radio drama, and more. Yakuza tournaments are common at many anime and video game cons, and the games have even inspired virtual tourism -- meaning people were visiting the game's real-life locations. Over 17 million copies of the game series have been sold as of 2021. The latest game in the series, Lost Judgement, was released in September 2021.

This sealed 9.8 A++ WATA-graded copy is as perfect as it gets. While there is interest in the game, if you're looking at this to invest in you may be sitting on it for a while. The one-year average for 9.8 graded games is $718 -- so if you're a collector, this is the perfect time to buy.
