Multiverse of Madness is the center of the MCU, and many are wondering where it is heading afterward. Could it be the setup for one of Marvel’s most popular crossovers, House of M?

As much money as Spider-Man: No Way Home earned for Disney/Marvel, the Doctor Strange sequel has the chance to outperform even that box office behemoth. Kevin Feige and company have a gold mine with the world’s most convenient plot device, the Multiverse, and it makes virtually every Marvel story ever written a possibility.

Going back to WandaVision, theorists have been wondering if Wanda Maximoff will follow her comic roots and become the MCU’s greatest threat. It could lead to the arrival of the X-Men to defend her, building to an adaptation of House of M, one of the most popular alternate-reality tales ever written for a Marvel comic.

AVENGERS #500

In the 2000s, Marvel began using Scarlet Witch not so much as a villain, but more as an antagonist and catalyst in the Marvel Universe. While she had been a staple of the Avengers, her power levels were upgraded along with her overall character status.

One of her big moments that comic fans are hoping to see in the MCU began with Avengers #500. Kicking off Avengers: Disassembled, the landmark story saw Scarlet Witch have a mental breakdown over the loss of her children.

She then used her powers to attack the Avengers, which would set the stage for the events of House of M.

Since there aren’t any first appearances here, it is understandably cheap. At the moment, you can own a 9.8 for about $65.

HOUSE OF M #1

Many theorists have pondered if House of M is the vehicle Marvel Studios needs to explain the existence of mutants in the MCU.

In this crossover, Scarlet Witch proves her omega-level status by warping reality for all of Earth-616.  The result was a shift in the status quo where mutants were at the top of the food chain and controlled the world.

The ramifications saw all of the Marvel Universe get a makeover and plenty of role switching.

This is where things begin to get more pricey.

In the past year, the graded 9.8 has averaged $190. Earlier this month, the last sale netted $220.

The one most collectors want is the Joe Quesada variant, which sold for $526 on March 23.

HOUSE OF M #4

One of the characters to be on the lookout for beginning with MOM and beyond is Layla Miller. She was first introduced in House of M #4 as a mutant born in that particular timeline.

Her power is that she can resurrect the dead and revive their consciousness. In House of M, she drove the plot by seeing through Scarlet Witch’s magic and restoring the superheroes’ memories of the real Earth-616. In the Marvel-616 continuity, Layla was part of X-Factor when they became private investigators.

This issue has flown under the collecting radar this year. There hasn’t been a graded 9.8 to sell online since one brought $210 in December.

AN ANTI-HERO IN WAITING

The MOM trailers indicate that Wanda could be on the verge of becoming a full-fledged anti-hero. It’s hard to imagine Marvel Studios making her a villain considering her marketability, but the events of WandaVision and her pointing out the hypocrisy of the MCU lend to the belief that her character is about to undergo a major change.

If we were able to see a House of M adaptation, it would make her the centerpiece of the MCU, and that could be where it’s all heading.
