As collectors, we are always trying to make sure our collection is well protected. This is one of the reasons why we spend so much money on bags and boards or getting books slabbed. I wanted to share 3 products that might prove beneficial to many of us as we work to protect our books. However, I do want to mention that I have not received any compensation, nor am I sponsored by any of these companies.

Comic Clear

Comic Clear makes crystal clear backing boards. I actually ordered this product during their pre-sale special. Since I own these, I can speak from experience. These backing boards are actually very sturdy and allow you to fully see the back of all your books. They also come in various sizes such as Current, Silver, and Golden Age. Personally, I like them because I can fully show off my valuable books now so much more easily.

These backing boards are made from plastic that will not break down or turn yellow over time. They also come with easy-to-remove film to keep them nice and clear. I originally thought taking the plastic off would be a pain but it really is nice and simple. However, what I loved the most was the customer service. While inquiring when my items would ship the owner himself, Stephen was quick to respond and even remembered seeing my name on the roster of customers.

Prices for these boards are as follows:

Trial Packs of each size: $10.49

Current/Silver Age packs of 25: $29.99

Golden Age packs of 25: $32.99

Comic Barricade

These are next on my list to purchase along with the last product I will be writing about. This is a simple item yet one that has been so necessary. Many of us own short or long boxes made from cardboard. However, they are not always fully packed. This means that your books will slide or bend in the box VERY easily. This eliminates the problem by creating a barricade.

The Comic Barricade is a rigid plastic with points on the bottom and the sides. You simply insert the barricade in and push it down and on the sides. The tiny punctures help keep the barricade in place as well as stop your comics from sliding. In addition, they also reinforce the box itself so that you can stack them without damaging the box.

Prices for these are as follows:

As you see, the more you order the more you save. If you want to learn more about them, Regie our host from the Weekly Spec videos did a review on them on his YouTube Channel Here.

Gator Guard

Now, Gator Guards are pretty cool. From what I can see it appears to be a way to slab your comics and protect them while allowing you to unslab them at any time. One of the biggest gripes people have about slabs is the inability to ever read them again. They also provide 85% protection against UV light aka the sunlight.

This company from Nashville has created a cool way to protect your books. But before anything, I need to mention how cool their website is. The loading page is an homage to Amazing Fantasy #15 and looks awesome. Back to the Guards, it is hard plastic with four screws. They also allow you to choose the color of your screws with 12 different options. Currently, due to the high demand, they are completely out of stock. Their website states they should have more stock in February. Although you will pay the same as if you were sending them to be graded, I like the option of being able to simply unscrew them and read your classics again.

Prices for these are as follows:

2 Pack - $36.00

6 Pack - $96.00

Additional screws are $3

Bottom Line

Hope these products prove to be useful for many of you. I do plan on investing in the last two very soon and hope to be able to update you with my own personal reviews. I do love the concept that each one developed and designed. You can tell these were made by collectors for collectors.
