The X-Men are coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and they will be here before you know it. We all know of the classic household names: Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, and Rogue. Many of these characters that were mentioned have a high price attached. Wolverine is a notable character where his value has been rising since Hugh Jackman portrayed the hero in the early 2000s. Jean Grey, an omega-level mutant is one of the many female characters that Fox pushed hard in the movies in the past. With that, the character lineup for the X-Men is tremendous! Here are some Modern key books for newer characters that have serious boom potential.

Modern X-Men Keys

I want to address the criteria for characters that have this "boom" potential.  Many things come to mind, but I will stick to two rules. The character's first appearance has to have a low print run and the comic exposure has to be notable. With that, here are some newer characters that could be the next Laura Kinney!

Pixie

The first character mentioned here is Pixie. Pixie's real name in the comics is Megan Gwynn. Megan is a mutant and a fairy with very unique abilities. Some of her abilities include flying with wings, teleportation, banishment, and a sleeping spell.  She learned to cast spells under Mr. Sorcerer Supreme himself, Doctor Strange.

Pixie fits the criteria based on the print run of her first appearance and her comic exposure. Her exposure includes over 200 appearances in comics. She is affiliated with teams such as the X-Men, New X-Men, and Paragons Squad. Her first appearance is in New X-Men: Academy X #5. The estimated print run of this comic is around 30,000 copies.

Elixir

Joshua Foley is the next character I would discuss. He goes by the hero name of Elixir. He is an omega level mutant with the skills of healing, life-force manipulation, resurrection, and biokinesis. His powers are very strong but can become very weak when he is relying upon them too much. Foley's ability to decide life and death on his comrades and adversaries is a very scary dilemma to deal with.

Elixir's comic exposure is widely spread. He has joined many teams in the comics. Teams that include the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Utopians, X-Men, X-Force, New Mutants, and Reavers. Josh does not appear in more comics than Megan, but his team affiliation is tremendous. His first appearance is in  New Mutants #5. The estimated print of this issue is around 40,000 copies.

Conclusion

These two characters I have mentioned have cheap issues that can still be obtained at your local comic shop. In addition, graded copies are either not being sold much or no one is getting it graded. Either way, investing in these characters is a long term hold for the future. Mutants are coming to the MCU and I do not see them leaving once they arrive. If anything, the character lineup will expand as the mutants become more established in the movies and television shows for Marvel.
