Every few weeks, we comb through the sales charts to see what books are moving so that you might be able to go to your LCS and find them.  Modern books are perfect to find in recent back stock or even still on racks!  While a regular perusal of the sales market overviews at GoCollect often shows the same books on top of the charts, today I want to point out some unusual suspects showing up on the sales charts. Reference to sale chart position or movement is as of the date of writing and the specific position may have moved by the date of publication, but hopefully the rationale for why they are interesting remains.

How Many Genies Do You Need?

Eight Billion Genies #1 is at #4 on the sales charts because Amazon has picked up this title for a possible movie and/or series.  It was new to the sales charts just a few weeks ago and is now knocking on the door of top sales positions of perennial top-selling books like Ultimate Fallout #4.

Published in May of 2022, this book by Image Comics is less than five months old and might still be buried under a stack of other new books at your LCS.  A 9.8 graded book sold in October of 2022 for over $120.  While the stock market crushed everyone else in September, owners of this book have enjoyed a huge increase in value.

I personally love the story concept - what if everyone in the world got a wish and chaos ensued?  I'm on the hunt for the book and excited that it will stream on Prime someday.

Hello, Kate Bishop

The 2017 introduction of Kate Bishop as Hawkeye in Hawkeye #1 has leapt from around 40th in sales into the top ten in just a few weeks.  This is the first solo series for this Hawkeye but she has been kicking ass since her Young Avenger days.  This book is also the first appearance of Alloy, but it is really the likelihood that Kate Bishop will continue to carry the bow into the next era of the MCU that makes it interesting to own.

The current sales for a 9.8-graded book have been popping in value but the top-grade of the book still sells for under $100.  The Disney + Hawkeye series was good, but Hailee Steinfield as Kate Bishop was a standout performance.  This book has the hallmarks of holding value - a key character appearance, a story with staying power and heading to the MCU plus a great cover.  I'm a buyer here.

And the Young Shall Rule

Speaking of young superheroes - Champions #1 is also soaring.  What is not to love about this 2016 book?  It should be no surprise that a well-received storyline (this book was the second best seller the month it came out) featuring two of the hottest young Modern Era characters, Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel) and Miles Morales (Spider-Man), would be popular.  Add to it that the book is drawn by Humberto Ramos, who continues to have a great run with Strange Academy.

From lingering around the top 50 to 60 level in the sales charts for a long time, it popped recently up into the top twenty and is now hovering consistently around the 15 or 16 sale position.  The great thing is that a 9.8 graded book is still decidedly under $100!  I am keeping an eye out for this book as well.

Free Is a Very Good Price

FCBD 2022 Avengers - X-Men - Eternals Judgement Day #1 is more than just a long title; it is a comic book in demand.  Also less than a year old, this book is seeing significant sales action, cracking the top twenty sales position several weeks in a row.

This first appearance of Brielle, daughter of Blade, is another step in a younger cast of characters.  This book is moving on rumors that Marvel has cast a new, younger, Blade to appear in future MCU projects.  Sales are hovering around $100 for a 9.8 graded book, which is a darn good return on this investment!

Sketchy Value

Lastly, it is always interesting to check out the GoCollect Chartbuster section to see some interesting action.  I am reminded that we live in the era of amazing cover art and particularly the rise of the sketch cover.

I love these and it is really the next level of collecting to search out these variants.  A Sketch variant of Black Panther #1 (9.8 grade) sold for $5,000 in April and an Uncanny X-Men #510 Sketch cover in the same grade sold for $13,200 recently.

Great art is always in demand and these can clearly be a wonderful investment or piece of art to own.
