Miles Morales - Ultimate Fallout #4

The Spider-Verse is alive and well on the market.  Classic Spider-Man titles are a collector's golden standard and always a good addition to any collection.  Spider-Gwen is going to be the next big thing if she isn't already.  Spider-Ham has finally received the market respect that I always thought he deserved.  Most importantly though, Miles Morales is Spider-Man too!  He may not be Peter Parker, but he is winning the hearts of fans and collectors alike.  Could there be more fortunes on the horizon for everything Spider-Verse?  Not sure, but Miles Morales may be hinting at a web of gains.

Miles Morales made his first appearance in Ultimate Fallout #4, in 2011.  He is a young kid who received powers similar to Spider-Man and made his debut following the death of Peter Parker.  This book has had quite the journey over the past few years.  9.8-grade copies sat in the $200 price range for a while as the market anticipated the release of Into the Spider-Verse. The movie, which features a cast of different Spider-powered beings from different Spider-Man related universes, was a surprise hit with moviegoers and comic investors alike.  With the release of the movie, there was a surge in demand on the market and copies began to top the $300 mark, even seeing a few jumps into the $400's.  There has even been a solid performance growth for the second print version.

Copies have had continued momentum from the release of the Spider-Verse movie.  Recently, a new surge of copies have been hitting the market and are also being scooped up by collectors.  The prices have consistently been above the $350 mark.  We may be seeing the top about to come off of this volcano.  How long until collectors are willing to shell out $400 a copy for a top grade?  If the $400 price point goes, it is not long until collectors are asking closer to $500 and the price shifts again.  As with most modern comics, I hesitate about stock in high grades, the number of copies in the census, and the desirability for a collector.  Ultimate Fallout #4 has broken all of these norms over the past few years and is continuing to perform.

So will gains continue to increase for this book?  In the short term, yes.  We are going to be treated to a Spider-Verse movie sequel.  This will surely cause another swell in prices as collectors ride the wave of hype, speculation, and desire that grows with every announcement, until the release.  The bigger bet on this book would be if you expect Miles Morales to make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which can push a character, and his related comics, from expensive to out-of-reach.  When Aaron Davis showed up in Spider-Man: Homecoming, I was sure we were going to be treated to Prowler in the future and, subsequently, Miles Morales as a side-effect...similar to the origin story for Miles.  With a more mature Spider-Man poised to make a debut in the next Spider-Man MCU installment, there may be room for a story involving a younger, newfangled Spider-Man ready to take the reins.

Are you a fan of Peter Parker's or Miles Morales' Spider-Man?  Do you hope for a new MCU Spider-person?  Drop your comments and join the speculation!
