Disney Plus plans on releasing the mind-blowing series, WandaVision, in the very near future. It is speculated that the series could be debuting as early as January 2021. It makes sense for the company to release the series in January to keep fans engaged with the media application.

Disney Plus is finishing up their hit series, The Mandalorian, in December of 2020 and this move would keep the momentum with the viewers.  WandaVision is setting up to be a huge series that will provide the foundation for the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The interesting plotline of the series is who is the villain of the show. Many signs and speculators believe that the overall "big bad" of the show is the demon, Mephisto.

So, who is Mephisto?

Mephisto is a demon that was created by Stan Lee and John Buscema in 1968. The character first appeared in Silver Surfer #3. He is an immortal being that possesses powerful magical powers. Some of his powers include the ability to transform into different shapes and sizes, create illusions, change memories, and alter time. In addition, in pertaining to someone's will, Mephisto can capture and keep their soul.

I also believe this character will not just be a "one-off" villain. Meaning, he will be a recurring villain that will cause havoc amongst the Marvel superheroes throughout the MCU. This is due to the ties Mephisto has with many of the heroes. Mephisto feuds with Ghost Rider, Silver Surfer, and Doctor Strange. All of these heroes are already in the MCU or heavily rumored to join in the upcoming phases.

How does Mephisto play into WandaVision?

The important rumor involving the WandaVision show is  Scarlet Witch plans to have children with Vision. These kids are important to note on the origin of their creation. There is a possibility that their souls could actually be owned by Mephisto. This storyline comes straight from The Vision and the Scarlet Witch (vol.2) series in 1985. Mephisto owns the souls of these kids and reabsorbs them out of existence. Of course, it is highly anticipated that these children are reincarnated as Billy Kaplan and Tommy Shepherd. These names are notable as they are members of the Young Avengers team. Of course, this team is heavily anticipated and expected to appear along with Kate Bishop and the other cast members.

In addition, Scarlet Witch could also go the route of actually making a deal with Mephisto to have children. Meaning, she may not realize the ramifications of a deal with him at the time it is made. In the end, she realizes the deal is too much in his favor and terrible events ensue.

What does this mean to collectors?

The first appearance of Mephisto has responded well to the rumors of him appearing on WandaVision. Out of the 17 graded copies sold in the last year, only 2 graded issues show a negative correlation. Otherwise, the book's value is soaring greatly. For example, a graded 9.4 issue has shown a positive trend of 17.1% since August 2019. The book was selling for about $2,000 in 2019 and the last sold copy went for around $2,640. This trend means good gains for the future for this character. I would advise the picking of this book as the value of this issue will spike higher if we find out he stays in the MCU long term.
