From November 17 - 20th Heritage is hosting a wintertime Signature Comic Auction! Featuring comics from all eras, this auction is shaping up to be one of the last chances this year bidders may have on popular and hard-to-find books and memorabilia!

The 'Memorabilia' tab on a majority of Heritage's comic auctions is always full of unique items as we've talked about in the past; napkins, jackets, office decor, and more. This month let's take a peek at what we have in our Signature Auction memorabilia tab!

Mickey Mouse and Tanglefoot Storybook and Unproduced Cartoon Outline

In the early days of Disney cartoons, Walt Disney created a menagerie of characters. The most iconic of them is Mickey Mouse! While many of Disney's creations live on in some way today, there are characters who were a one-and-done deal. Tanglefoot is a horse that might not be graceful on its hooves. Tanglefoot only appeared once -- in a Big Little Book produced by Whitman. A cartoon was planned for the character in 1938 but ultimately fell through. This happens fairly often, but sometimes a project (or character) may be saved for later use (even if it's decades later).

This lot features a copy of the BLB in overall Good condition, as well as a proposal outline (with synopsis) as well as a studio-copies concept sketch! These two artifacts are indeed rare, and any Disney collector should keep their eyes on them. Production items from when Walt was alive are truly special and show us how far Disney themselves have come. Finding a definitive price on this is hard. The BLB itself could go for as little as $50, but the production notes could go for over $1K.

Aurora Monster Scenes / Vintage Model Lot

Did you miss out on the Aurora models from the Hakes auction? Here's your chance to own eight models from Aurora's initial run! Kits included are Vampirella, The Pain Parlour, Gruesome Goodies, Frankenstein, Dr. Deadly, The Pendulum, The Hanging Cage, and The Victim. Every single one -- except for The Hanging Cage -- is still factory sealed. The Hanging Cage has been resealed. Due to this, all of the items within the boxes are assumed to be in Excellent condition.

A lot like this will likely go for at least a thousand dollars. In May 2019 Heritage sold a lot of 16 opened yet unassembled kits as a lot for $7200. Frankenstein himself sells for $400 - $500 when open.

The National Cartoonist Society Album 1972

This is probably one of the cooler things I've found on Heritage! Up for auction is The National Cartoonist Society Album from 1972. The National Cartoonist Society was created in 1946, and to this day is the most recognized organization of cartoonists. Cartoonists from all mediums are welcome into the society, which includes heavy hitters such as Dan DeCarlo, Walt Disney, and Chuck Jones.

The album is really a great resource for who's who from 1972. Even more impressive is the amount of signatures that were obtained for this copy.  A plethora of artists signed this book, with some remarks included. There are a few other items included, such as a letter from Fred Toole penned on Dennis the Menace stationary, loose sketches, and more. If you're looking for a unique time capsule, look no further. This is the cartoonist collector's dream!
