Marvel’s Champions has long been one of my favorite properties. With a new #1 coming out in October I believe Marvel’s young heroes will finally come to the forefront. In this article, I will discuss five Champions' comic books that I expect to receive more attention in the near future.

Champions #1 – One Per Store Variant

Champions #1 came out in 2016 with a gigantic print run of more than 325,000 copies ordered by retailers. As a result, the collectability of this book is relatively low due to the massive supply. This retailer one per store variant is particularly appealing as it may be one of the rarest of all the Champions #1 comics out there. These have been selling in the $20 to $30 range, but I do not see that lasting for long. There are just eight copies of this listed on the GoCollect census.

Champions #1 – Alex Ross 1:100 Variant

This is one of the most iconic covers of the modern era in my opinion. It features Marvel’s young trinity of Miles Morales, Kamala Khan, and Sam Alexander. From a scarcity standpoint, I see this book coming in right behind the one per store variant with a print run estimate in the 2,500 to 3,000 range.

Champions #1 – 2nd Print

I have spoken about this book before. Retailers did not need to order this book due to the massive print run of the first print. I spoke with a very reputable comic reseller and he believes that this book might have only been available in Walmart packs. If so, this book is super rare. You can identify them by the blue C in the trade dress rather than the gold for the first prints. There are no copies of this book currently on the census. This is the sort of book that really gets me excited.

Champions #1 – Hip Hop Variant

I would be remiss if I did not mention one of my very favorite hip-hop variant covers which I initially discussed here. There is something about the team being together here that screams unity to me. This cover did not heat up like other hip-hop variants did and can still be found cheap. Currently, there are no graded copies of this book listed on the GoCollect census.

Nova #3 (2015)

As far as I can tell this is the first time Miles, Kamala and Sam are featured together on a cover (there are other books where they are all there but with several other characters). Marvel has featured these three on countless covers together. Their first time together strikes me as a key moment for collectors to have in their collection. Keep an eye open of the second print with the blue trade dress. This is a tough book to track down.

Final Thoughts

Marvel’s Champions are ripe for explosion. The team features several of Marvel's hottest young characters. There are lots of gems hidden in this series and in the solo series of its team members. The time is now for hunting Marvel's Champions.
