Captain Marvel's latest trailer lights up the cosmos which cheeky action and fun anecdotes about the Power Cosmic, the Kree and more importantly the horde of invading space Nazi's, aka the Skrulls. The Skrulls first appeared in Fantastic Four #2. As time wore on Marvel writers developed the Skrull Empire as a shapeshifting, technologically superior race of invading aliens. They became an intergalactic menace on a level with Galactus. Do you think Independence Day had cool aliens? Skrulls have powers, alien tech and shapeshifting, a trifecta of fun. The Skrull-Kree-War alone could give enough material for an entire movie about the skulking Skrulls. This cover FF #250 has X-Men battling the FF. But they, are actually Skrulls, not the X-Men. Now the alien Skrulls, need to use technology to actually recreate powers like Storm's control of the weather or Nightcrawler's teleporting ability. With alien technology, they can approximate those powers and with their innate shapeshifting assume superpowered identities. The Skrulls were created in 1962 before Anime, Mystique (Ms. Marvel #16), Terminator II, Star Trek, and long before the show Supernatural. All, these pop culture references probably "borrowed" the idea from Marvel's Skrulls. Obviously, the first appearance of the Skrulls is a key book to own, but what about simulacrum superheroes. Does the first appearance of the Skrull-X-Men count with the same pomp and profit of the original?

Fantastic Four #2

The first appearance of these space Nazi's (The Skrulls) is in 1962 and guess who created them? Yep, Stan "The Man" Lee. People ain't seen nothing yet when it comes to these nasty creatures, not to mention the Super-Skrull himself who has all the powers of the FF. The Fantastic Four #2 was created by Jack Kirby (art) and Stan Lee (script). This "last ten cent" issue laid the groundwork for the newest movie from Marvel. Captain Marvel just debuted a trailer with an apparent fantastic storyline that is building the hype for her movie due out next year. The trailer gives us Marvel's Kree beginnings and an outrageous fight with a Gym-Kata like Skrull-Grannie. Grandma-Skrull does a summersault back kick at Captain Marvel after taking a punch that could floor Captain America (Source: CBM). Check off the catalyst box this trailer appears to be an introduction to the Skrulls; they are going to be fun to watch onscreen. This group of villains more than any other will seem insidious and unstoppable on a planetary scale. Which will probably lead most of "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" to war.

The FF#2 for a mint condition (9.8) grade comic has sold for $165,000 back in August 2013. You can still get into a first appearance of the Skrulls for the grade (6.0) at an extremely reasonable $2378 recent sale on ComicConnect June 2018. This big Silver Age key is the second appearance of the Fantastic Four and the first appearance of the Skrulls. The profits for this double-key are substantial with (9.4) near mint going for positive +57.9% and grade (6.0) would provide a positive return of +39.9%. Not a bad return for capturing Skrull Space Nazi's.

Fantastic Four #250

This comic has the first appearance of the simulacrum X-Men, Skrulls with powers like the X-Men. They fight Captain America, Spider-Man and Gladiator of the Shiar Guard, oh and of course the FF too. It is actually a heck of comic, highlighting the powers of each superhero in a time before, kill or die became the "norm." The Fantastic Four #250 is a minor key of simulacrum X-Men who are eventually defeated by the FF with Cap's help. This 250th Special issue is still very reasonable to buy in at only $98.60 sold on eBay November 2018 for the grade (9.8). At this price why look at others, simply buy a mint condition grade copy and send it into CGC. If it gets a (9.8) grade you are in the money. Skrulls are hard to spot, but their key comics like Fantastic Four #250  are not. Speculate on the space Nazi's, or you will feel like you have been bushwacked by Grandma Skrull: embarrassing.
