Marvel dropped the first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and the footage is impressive. While Ant-Man may get top billing, Kang the Conqueror stole the show, and it’s sending buyers on a spending spree for his early appearances.

We have been hearing about the Ant-Man 3 trailer since San Diego Comic-Con. Marvel debuted the footage to panel guests, though it was held from the general public until now. Monday, fans got their first looks at Jonathan Majors in full Kang regalia along with Bill Murray as Krylar.

Although it’s much too early to judge the movie’s quality, the trailer was impressive as Scott Lang ventures into the Quantum Realm to rescue his daughter, Cassie, from Kang’s clutches. The third Ant-Man flick appears to be more serious than the last go-round, Ant-Man and the Wasp, which ranks as one of Marvel’s worst films. Hopefully, it will be a step in the right direction as Quantumania leads audiences into Phase Five.

There are far too many key issues to spotlight in a single blog, so today let’s check on the star of the trailer, Kang.

AVENGERS #8

Like all Marvel trailers, Quantumania sent buyers straight to eBay in search of that mythical first appearance. Of course, Avengers #8 has been a popular item since there were rumors of Kang appearing in Endgame. Those prices hit the ceiling when Loki confirmed He Who Must Not Be Named as the conquering time traveler. Now that we have our first look at Majors in full costume—and it looked great, by the way—it’s time for those fair market values to spike once again.

The highest grade sold in the past month has been the 8.0, which brought $2,640 in September. That was the culmination of a steady decline that saw it drop from $4k+ to the current price. The trailer, however, should spur the prices in the upward direction. Already, a 0.5, which had sold for $220 last month, jumped to $400 Monday. We can only imagine where the higher grades will land if a lowly 0.5 is nearly doubling in price.

FANTASTIC FOUR #19

Here is one issue in the lengthy Kang pantheon that has been getting much more popular in recent years.

This issue did not have a Kang appearance. In fact, it predates Avenger #8 by a full year. Instead, we find the debut of Rama-Tut, the randomly white pharaoh of Ancient Egypt. It just so happens that he is Nathaniel Richards, the time-traveling distant relative of Mister Fantastic. This issue is important because it planted the seeds for what would become one of the Marvel Universe’s most notorious villains, Kang the Conqueror. Even better, it comes at significantly lower price than Avengers #8.

The most common grade for FF #19 has been the 4.0 with 95 copies on the CGC census. With so many at this quality available, it is one of the most popular grades among buyers. For the past year, it’s stayed in the $500 range, but the Ant-Man trailer should give that FMV a boost.

THAT’S MY KANG

Let the hype train for Quantumania leave the station. After the maligned MCU Phase Four entries, the epic trailer for Ant-Man 3 has rejuvenated the Marvel audience’s enthusiasm. No question, the movie is full sci-fi, but we can expect plenty of comedy, considering we’ve got Paul Rudd and Murray together. All the same, the trailer has given fans something to cheer about after so many misfires.
