The first trailer for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law dropped on Tuesday, May 17.  There were some surprises in the trailer - no, not the CGI - and some key books that jumped in price as a result.  Let’s take a look at how the market reacted.

First Appearance

It’s always interesting to watch the trends when something new appears from Marvel Studios.

The first book that collectors were seeking when the trailer dropped was the character’s first appearance in The Savage She-Hulk #1.  While there were no record sales in the high grades, in terms of volume, this book absolutely exploded.  67 graded copies of The Savage She-Hulk #1 sold on eBay the first five days after the trailer was released, with 23 of those being sold on May 17 alone.

On May 18, there were 19 sales of graded copies.  The big winner was a 9.8 copy signed by Stan Lee and Joe Sinnott that sold on May 17 for $2,999.

In general, there were upward trends for this comic across all grades, with most selling at or above FMV.  The peak for The Savage She-Hulk #1 was in 2021, but that doesn’t mean that we won’t see some records down the road.  While trailers can cause books to spike and reach records, first episodes of TV series can also push books higher.

Sensational Second Series and First Hulk Team-Up

By May 19 and May 20, collectors, while not turning away completely from The Savage She-Hulk #1, were turning their eye toward The Sensational She-Hulk #1.  10 graded copies sold across those two days.  There were no record breakers; this book, too, saw its peak in 2021.  But volume was higher than normal, and prices were rising accordingly.

As volume began to wane on The Sensational She-Hulk #1, Incredible Hulk #282 – the first team-up of the Hulk and She-Hulk – began to pick up in sales, setting some records along the way.

A 9.8 graded copy sold on May 20 for $700, besting the previous high of $600 set on April 16.  Even an 8.5 graded copy set a new high with a $150 sale, also on May 20.

This is a book to continue to watch, as the Hulk will play a prominent role in the Disney+ series, and the first team-up of the two could continue to have some traction with collectors.

The Villains & a Frog?

Tim Roth appeared in the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law trailer, and it was announced well in advance that the Abomination would be appearing in the series.

While there was only one sale of a graded copy of Tales to Astonish #90 – the first appearance of the Abomination – it was an interesting sale nonetheless.  A 2.5 graded copy sold for $170 on May 18.  There had previously been no recorded sales of a 2.5, not surprising when you see that there is only one in the CGC census.

What makes this sale interesting is that the price it went for is at the FMV for a 4.5 graded copy.  Was this an example of FOMO; or will we see new highs for this book in the lower grades?

We’ve also known that Titania would appear in the series for a while now.  Volume picked up on Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars #3 and prices started seeing an upward trend, although below 2021 peaks.  However, that’s the first appearance of the second Titania.  The first Titania made her debut in Marvel Two-In-One #54, and prices shot upward.  A 9.0 graded copy sold on May 17 for $120, breaking the previous record by $20, and then another sold on May 19 for $150.  This is a book that, despite its record-breaking sales, is still under the radar for most collectors.  Keep an eye on it.

Leap Frog... Frog Man?

And finally, we come to Leap Frog.  Or is it Frog Man?  The character made one very brief appearance in the trailer and fans went scrambling for his first appearance.  Daredevil #25 is the first appearance of Leap Frog.  Sales for raw copies were off the charts.  While only two graded copies sold, and they were low grades, they both set records, with a 4.5 selling for $150 on May 17, and then a 4.0 selling on May 19 for $275!  That’s for a book with an FMV of $95.  In fact, that’s above the FMV for a 9.2!  Did someone just go crazy; or, as with Tales to Astonish #90, are new we seeing new highs for this book in the lower grades?

The first appearance of Frog Man, the son of Leap Frog, was in Marvel Team-Up #121.  A 9.8 graded copy sold on May 21 for a slashed price of $750, beating its previous record of $550, set on May 14, by 23%.

Other record-setting prices for this book included a 9.6 selling for $250 and a 5.5 selling for $45.  It’s hard to tell at this point whether it will be Leap Frog or Frog Man who shows up in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, but prices are going up for the first appearance of each.
