Madame Web

Look, I get it: Who would want to watch a Madame Web movie? Sure, I will admit that Sony's desire to craft a feature film around the famous Spider-Man supporting character is strange in principle. I also cannot deny the potential such a spin-off has. The character, to the best of my knowledge, opens up a universe of possibilities for Sony's Marvel Universe. This leads me to suggest that Madame Web will be Sony's next superstar.

Sony's plans with the Spider-Man film rights is rather interesting, to say the least. Instead of giving Marvel Studios complete control of all the characters, they have opted to forge their own path. They are only cooperating with Kevin Feige on Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland. Everything else, including Venom, MorbiusVenom: Let There Be Carnage and the upcoming Man-Wolf (yes, you read that right) will be under Sony's complete control.

In September of last year, the studio officially announced that a Madame Web film was in development. Just last week, S.J. Clarkson, who has directed countless episodes of Jessica Jones and The Defenders, was announced to helm the project. A few weeks earlier, it was rumored that American Hustle's Amy Adams and Mad Max: Fury Road's Charlize Theron were the studio's top-picks for the titular role.

Madame Web Is Sony's Next Superstar

With a fantastic director in Clarkson, and two Oscar caliber-actors in the running for the lead role, one would certainly suggest that Sony has rather big plans for this Madame Web spin-off film. Much like how the studio cast its Venom and Morbius, Sony seems to be attracting huge talent for their superhero projects. This leads me to believe that Madame Web will not just be a one-and-done sort of project.

Provided the film does well, we could see Web be the branch between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Sony Universe. Hell, she could even be the basis for a live-action Spider-Verse feature film. That is if Sony were interested in going down that path.

Madam Web Comic Values

Madame Web - Spider-man

With all that out of the way, we can discuss what you are really here to see. Should you invest in Madame Web? To be completely honest with you, I don't see why not. A few years ago, I picked up the character's debut - Amazing Spider-Man #210 - for $7 (USD) on eBay. Granted, the book is not a 9.8 (which sells for around $800 on eBay), but I certainly have made my money back (and then some).

At the moment, Amazing Spider-Man #210 in a 7.0 (which is what my copy was graded) sells for around $95. In a little over two years and zero progress made on the live-action film, I would profit $88. With a director now attached, a script in place, and the studio in the process of locking down a star, the Madame Web film is ever so close. That means that her debut will inevitably sky-rocket. If you are interested in Madame Web and want to get in before the character explodes, the time is now. A 9.8 copy of her debut is trading for an affordable $800.
