Kitty Pryde

In 2018, it was announced that Deadpool director Tim Miller and Ultimate Spider-Man writer Brian Michael Bendis were working on a Kitty Pryde solo movie set within the Fox continuity (if such a thing exists). Following Disney's purchase of Fox, the movie was left on the shelf. For the upcoming reboot in the MCU, Kevin Feige and co would be foolish not to make Kitty Pryde the MCU's next star.

If you grew up in the early 2000s, the name Kitty Pryde probably meant a lot to you. In 2003's X-Men: Evolution, Pryde was a lead character, a heroic and funny one too. When Ellen Page was cast in the role for 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand, fans the world over thought we were finally going to see Pryde in all her glory... and we really didn't. While Page's performance was solid, Kitty Pryde was not treated as the star many fans (myself included) believed she deserved.

The Future of the MCU is Female

In recent years, Marvel Studios has put a focus on female characters. Last year, Captain Marvel dominated the box office, crossing over $1 billion worldwide, the first for a female-led superhero movie. And this year alone we will see the long-awaited Black Widow film, and The Eternals starring Gemma Chan as Sersi and directed by Chloe Zhao. With the attention to female characters, and the female audience, the forthcoming X-Men reboot could be led by a woman, and who better than Kitty Pryde?

Kitty Pryde - Uncanny X-Men #129

In the comic books, Pryde is a younger character than most of the other X-Men. If Marvel were to adapt this to the silver screen, they would be sitting on a throne of cash. Audiences could be ushered into this new iteration of the Mutants through the eyes of the 16-year-old Pryde, giving us a truly comic book accurate version of the Children of the Atom. With the over-reliance on Jean Grey in the recent Fox movies, I could see them using Pryde as an alternative option, as the last we saw of her was in 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past. Plus, with Tom Holland's Spider-Man apparently staying in the MCU, Marvel could play into a relationship between Pryde and Spidey fans never thought they would see on the big screen.

Now, as far as investing in the character of Pryde is concerned, her first appearance is a pretty wicked one. Uncanny X-Men #129 marked the beginning of the iconic Dark Phoenix Saga. In addition to featuring Pryde, it also included our first look at Emma Frost and Sebastian Shaw, who were both last seen on-screen in 2011's X-Men: First Class. At the moment, the book is in high demand. I chalk this up to a few people thinking like myself and wanting to invest in Pryde before it is too late. In February of this year, a 9.8 copy of the book sold for $1,300 (USD). Lower-quality grades range anywhere between $95 (7.5) and $326 (9.6). A week ago, I bought an 8.5 copy signed by X-Men legend, Chris Claremont for $96 (USD), a bargain if I say so myself.

In all honesty, I see this comic as a great get. Pryde is a character whose popularity knows no bounds, and if she is not included in the first MCU X-Men movie, I am certain she will be included in the sequel. So, my advice is this: Don't be too late. Don't ignore the book and then scream into the heavens when Millie Bobby Brown is cast as the character in a year or so's time!

Trust me when I say, Kitty Pryde is the MCU's next star.
