Keanu Reeves is returning to the sunny shores of DC Studios now that the long-awaited Constantine sequel has been given the green light.

There had been rumors and whispers for years. Maybe it wasn’t a perfect movie. Maybe Keanu didn’t fit the comic book mold for John Constantine. Still, it had a solid fan base that was ravenous to see more. According to producer Akiva Goldsman, he’s working on the story before he moves to writing the script. When it will hit theaters, there’s no way of knowing, but it is coming.

Does that mean that Keanu is now the one and only Constantine in James Gunn’s DCU vision? Not necessarily. The Constantine sequel will be an Elseworlds film, meaning it will be a standalone story and not part of the main DCU timeline. That makes it almost a certainty that we’ll see another John Constantine. Who knows? Maybe we’ll even see Matt Ryan return to the part. After the comic crowd complained Reeves wasn’t accurate, the short-lived-but-cherished Constantine NBC show cast a blond-haired, British Ryan in the part. Even after the series was canceled, he continued to voice the part for the DC Animated Universe and appeared in the role in the Arrowverse.

Odds are we’ll see a third Constantine actor for the main DCU, which will make for some interesting fan castings. In the meantime, the sequel news will drive his keys across the secondary market. It’s not like these weren’t already expensive, but the excitement for DCU Chapter One along with Keanu’s return will elevate those prices.

SAGA OF THE SWAMP THING #25

There’s some debate on John’s first appearance. There is an unnamed figure that many point to as being Constantine, but he wasn’t sporting his trademark look. CGC has become the authority on the matter, and the experts there do not acknowledge this as his debut.

No matter which side of the debate you fall on, it is well worth adding to your long boxes. At the moment, you can get a 9.8 for around $220 on average.

SAGA OF THE SWAMP THING #37

There’s no comparison when it comes to the Constantine first that collectors and investors have at the top of their wish lists. Where you can get a 9.8 Swamp Thing #25 for a little over $200, that wouldn’t buy you more than a 7.0 Swamp Thing #37. In fact, if you won’t settle for less than a 9.8, expect to fork over about $1,700 based on the most recent sale from February 14. Need something a little cheaper? Drop the grade down to a 9.6, and you’ll save over $1k since it generally sells for $500-$600.

JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK

Since Swamp Thing has a horror movie in the works, and with Constantine back in the spotlight, it sets the stage for the Justice League Dark. Could this be on the horizon? Since Gunn seems to be interested in trying new approaches to the DC slate, it would not be a surprise. More than any potential A-list castings, this could be the time to recruit Guillermo del Toro to finally get his JL Dark film. That would be a treat for comic fans everywhere.

While we wait for more news, here’s something to ponder: Will Keanu or Goldsman be the next to meet Constantine in real life? Alan Moore, Jamie Delano, Peter Milligan, and Brian Azzarello have all claimed to have seen the John Constantine in the flesh.
