Back in the summer, Kang the Conqueror keys exploded after He Who Remains, a Kang variant, made a surprise appearance in Loki on July 14th. Six months later, how are those key issues faring? Are there potential buying opportunities here?

Avengers #8 Has Lost 33% of Its Value in Some Grades

Even though we've known for a long time that Kang would appear in the MCU in the next Ant-Man & The Wasp film, his first appearance in Avengers #8 suddenly went through the roof when He Who Remains made a surprise appearance in Loki.

A CGC 5.0 copy peaked when it sold for $2,344.16 in August 2021. Just four months later, other CGC 5.0 copies have sold for around $1,400.

Even though this issue has lost more than a third of its value since its peak, it is still up 100% from this time a year ago.

Considering this is a blue chip Silver Age key, and that we'll see a lot more of Kang in the MCU, this could be a good entry point.

The Value of Fantastic Four #19 Continues to Rise

In contrast, the value of Fantastic Four #19 continues to rise in many grades. This issue contains the first appearance of Rama-Tut, later revealed to be another incarnation of Kang.

For example, a CGC 4.5 copy of this issue for $507 back in June when Loki debuted. This issue has continued to rise in value with another 4.5 selling for an all-time high of $735 on January 8, 2022.

This is a Silver Age key; however, as someone who avoids buying at peak prices, I'm avoiding this one for now. Of course, if Rama-Tut appears in the MCU, I will be eating my words.

High-Grade Raw Copies of Avengers #2 (2016) Sell for $10 or Less.

This issue isn't a key because it contains any first appearances, but because of its amazing Alex Ross cover that highlights different incarnations of Kang: Kang, Immortus, Scarlet Centurion, Iron Lad, and Rama-Tut.

CGC has graded very few of these issues; there are only 47 total that have been graded by CGC. That being said I wouldn't be surprised if there were quite a few copies of this book waiting to be graded at CGC after this book got hot during the summer.

High-grade raw copies are selling for $10 or less on eBay. While I don't believe this book has a high ceiling, investing at $10 an issue could be a good entry point, especially considering we'll be seeing a lot more of Kang in the future.

Will Fantastic Four #272 and #273 Get Hot Again?

Two other books that received renewed attention last year were Fantastic Four #272 and #273. #272 features the first cameo appearance of Nathaniel Richards and #273 contains his first full appearance.

Nathaniel Richards is the father of Mr. Fantastic and the namesake of Kang the Conqueror, his descendent. CGC 9.8 copies of #272 have experienced a bear market, losing nearly 50% of its value since reaching its peak of $676 in October 2021.

On January 19th, another 9.8 sold for just $410. The value of #273 appears to have held its value a bit more with a 9.8 selling on eBay for $400 on January 24.
