Fans of Marvel's classic all-American hero will be pleased to discover that Marvel Studios has chosen Joe Johnston to helm the upcoming First Avenger: Captain America movie. Johnston, who previously directed such comic-book and fantasy fare as The Rocketeer, Jumanjii, and Jurassic Park III, is currently working on The Wolf Man, starring Anthony Hopkins and Benicio Del Toro.

While in the present-day Captain America comics, Steve Rogers is dead and the mantle has been taken up by longtime sidekick James “Bucky” Barnes, First Avenger: Captain America is slated to be an origin story set during World War II, when Rogers battled the Nazis and his archnemesis, the Red Skull.

What's next? Hiring writers and - ulp - an actor worthy of carrying Winghead's shield. We'll keep you updated as more details come to light, and in the meantime, what's your dream cast for the movie? Post your comments below!
