kravenAh, Kraven The Hunter. For years, fans (myself included) have longed to see the famed Spider-Man foe appear on the big screen. Despite easter eggs in films like The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Kraven has yet to mark his live-action debut.  However, with Sony and Marvel's Spider-Man 3 in the works, I believe it is (finally) Kraven's time in the sun.

Kraven Background

The character is one of the most famous Spider-Man villains not yet portrayed on screen. He joins an illustrious list that includes The Chameleon, The Hobgoblin, The Jackal, Black Cat, Mister Negative, and Hammerhead. Over the last few years, there have been countless rumors and scoops regarding Kraven's live-action debut. Originally, the character was set to appear in Ryan Coogler's Black Panther, replacing Ulysses Klaw. However, Sony declined the opportunity because the character was set to receive his own standalone film at the studio. Now look, I am not introducing a radical idea on this website: There have been multiple articles regarding Kraven's inevitable live-action debut. However, I feel as if now is the right time for the character, and allow me to explain.

The Hunter Is Coming...

At the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home (spoilers for a movie that's nearly a year old), Peter Parker's identity is revealed to the entire world. It is a perfect conclusion that lays the groundwork for a truly unique sequel. There is a particular reason why you set up an 'on the run' storyline, especially when you have a villain like Kraven at your disposal. On the live-action front, there really hasn't been a better time to do Kraven. Think about it for a second, he would literally not work in any other Spider-Man film so far, but he is just perfect for Spider-Man 3.

If the third film in the new series features Peter Parker being hunted down across New York City by Kraven, who is employed by someone like Norman Osborn or J. Jonah Jameson, this could make for one of the coolest superhero films ever. Think John Wick Chapter 3, but with Spider-Man! It wouldn't be about the end of the world, more than it would be about the end of Peter's world. It is an interesting logline for the follow-up, and frankly, I'll be a little disappointed if they don't follow through.

It's Kraven's Time In The Sun

In the comics, Kraven first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #15. Over the last few months, a lot of these books have sold, and I am not exactly sure why. Back in July of last year, I got my hands on a Stan Lee-signed 7.5 copy for a mere $600 (USD). Personally, I wouldn't even think of selling until the trailer for Spider-Man 3 with Kraven hits, as that's when the book will go gangbusters.

If you haven't already, please invest in The Amazing Spider-Man #15. It is an original Stan Lee/Steve Ditko book, which basically means it will never really lose value. Besides, think about the potential reward of such an investment! I mean the character will inevitably mark his live-action debut, and do you really wanna miss out?
