Since Nightwing's first appearance in the pages of Tales of the Teen Titans #44, fans have been desperate to see the first Robin receive a live-action solo film, or at this point, even acknowledgement. Despite Nightwing’s appearance on Titans, DC fans still believe there is more to be done with the character, and frankly, I agree. That said, according to a new rumour, Nighting may finally be on his way to the DCEU…

Nightwing_TitansThe last time Robin appeared in a live-action feature film (not including a defaced Robin suit from Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice) was Batman & Robin, released in the summer of 1997. That, just for your information, was over a year before I was born. That is, for all intents and purposes, a long damn time. Despite this, Robin/Nightwing has appeared in countless television series, both in animated and live-action form including Teen Titans, The Batman and of course, the divisive HBO Max series, Titans.

DC/WB’s lack of interest in Nightwing is beyond strange to someone like me. I have always known Nightwing to be one of the greatest DC characters ever; Warner Bros’ treatment of the character is nothing short of lunacy. However, that may all change if a new rumour is to be believed.

Is Nightwing Finally On His Way To The DCEU?

According to Twitter user MyTimeToShineHello, who has a rather proven track record as of late, Dick Grayson/Nightwing will indeed appear in a live-action DC film “soon,” with this year’s Batgirl, being the most likely of candidates. To add a little more fuel to the fire, a few days ago, leaked set photos showed off a mural of Batman alongside some interpretation of Robin.

While no casting has been confirmed by the studio or any major trade, it is widely believed that The Maze Runner and Teen Wolf star, Dylan O’Brien is either in talks or has at least met with Warner Bros over the role. O’Brien’s involvement was reiterated by a few other reliable Twitter scoopers. This provides at least a little more validity to the whole thing.

DC on film has been a little bit of a mess as of late; Warner Bros’ intent on expanding the Bat-Verse is a step in the right direction. Hopefully, this Nightwing rumour comes to fruition. The character is a beloved member of the DC universe. With O’Brien’s involvement, there’s no telling how big Nightwing could be for DC and Warners. Who knows, perhaps we could be a few years out from seeing a live-action Teen Titans feature film?
