NamorNamor the Submariner and the Marvel Cinematic Universe are two things that, on paper, make a hell of a lot of sense. Namor's introduction would open up a whole different side to the MCU (Atlantis, anyone?) and following the success of DC's Aquaman movie, you would think Namor would be high up on Kevin Feige's to-do list. However, despite rumors popping up every six months, nothing concrete has been said regarding the character's debut in the MCU. However, with The Eternals arriving sometime in the next 12 months (God willing) is Namor finally on his way to the MCU?

Unlike most Marvel characters (well, now at least), Namor is not entirely owned by Marvel Studios and parent company Disney. Much like the Incredible Hulk, Namor's film rights are caught up at Universal, who have little to no idea what to do with him. This strange situation has not stopped Feige and Marvel from straight-up referencing Atlantis, however. In Iron Man 2, on a map that details various locations of superhumans, a marker is established over the Atlantic Ocean, and in Avengers: Endgame, an earthquake under the ocean is implied to directly relate to the famous Atlantean.

Is Namor Finally On His Way To The MCU?

And while these references and Easter eggs are all well and good, as a fan of the character, they are like a Big Mac, you know? They are satisfying, but they still leave something to be desired. However, that my friends, may all be about to change!

A few days ago, MCU Cosmic reported that in the upcoming Eternals film (which is confirmed to span across thousands of years) we will see the sinking of Atlantis. Now, while this is (kinda) similar to the previous Namor Easter eggs, this one hits a little differently. If you go back and look at 2008's The Incredible Hulk, the Super Soldier serum made an appearance there, further setting up 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger. In Iron Man 2, Wakanda is seen on that previously mentioned map, before being name-dropped in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, which of course led to Black Panther's MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War a year later.

What I am trying to say here is that, perhaps, this is one of the final teases Marvel Studios will give us before announcing a Namor film, or confirming his role in Black Panther 2. The studio is well-known for its ability to foreshadow and plan, and if this rumor turns out to be true, I think it's a perfect set-up. Plus, with the addition of the X-Men, and Mutants, to the MCU canon, is now not the perfect time to properly introduce the Submariner?

Namor

As far as investing in Namor is concerned... Yeah. The character's first appearance can be found in Marvel Comics #1 from 1939. Unless you have half a million dollars lying around, I suggest you look elsewhere. For example, Namor's first Silver Age appearance can be found in Fantastic Four #4. Considering the book is one of the earliest in the series, it is rather pricey. In November of last year, a 9.6 copy sold for over $110,000 (USD)! On eBay at the moment, a 3.5 graded copy will set you back $3,500. However, a 2.5 will merely cost... over $1,500. Yeah, Namor is not a cheap character.

Namor

One book that will surely increase in value once the character is formally announced by the studio is Sub-Mariner #1 from 1968. This book retells the origins of Namor and features a pretty iconic cover. At the moment, a 7.5 copy on eBay will cost you $539, which is on sale. A beautiful, 9.4 copy, signed by Stan Lee is trading for $1,700, the collector in me would snap this one up, any day of the week.

So, what do you guys think of all of this? Do you believe that Namor will finally head on over to the MCU, or do you think this rumored Easter egg is just another Big Mac?
