As reported in multiple media outlets in recent weeks, Disney has delayed the release of Ironheart on Disney+ at least in part due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. While this may be bad news for MCU junkies, it may be good news for investors looking for a good deal. Once a hot book, the market has completely forgotten about Invincible Iron Man #9. Is it a good time to buy this Modern Age key issue?

Created by famed writer Brian Michael Bendis in 2016, Ironheart (aka Riri Williams) is a fifteen-year-old genius attending MIT on a scholarship who builds a suit of armor similar to Iron Man's using stolen materials. Even though she's a recent creation, Ironheart has already appeared in several episodes of Marvel Rising, an animated show, and also made her live-action debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in 2022.

She made her first appearance in a cameo in Invincible Iron Man #7 and then her first full appearance in Invincible Iron Man #9.

Invincible Iron Man #9 has lost 82% of its value since September 2021.

The most common grade of Invincible Iron Man #9 on the CGC Census is a 9.8 -- which is a little surprising due to its all-black cover. More specifically, among the 3,414 universal blue labels on the Census, 1,412 of those are 9.8s.

The value of a 9.8 of Invincible Iron Man #9 has absolutely plummeted in value over the past eighteen months. While this steep drop in value is common for many Modern Age key issues after the "bubble" popped in 2022, this book was a bit different because it actually held onto its value for nearly a year after reaching the $800 range in April 2021.

The three most recent sales of 9.8s were consistently in the $175 range; however, back in August, a 9.8 sold for just $158.

Could it fall lower than than $158? Sure, but such a position doesn't seem to be supported by any historical data. The last time a 9.8 sold in the $160 range was back in early 2020 about a year before the comic "boom" occurred. By January 2021, just before the comic boom, this issue was selling for just under $400 on a consistent basis.

Personally, I think if you can get a 9.8 for $175 or less, you did pretty well. I doubt this book will ever reach $800 again (at least not during the next decade), but I do think it'll reach the $400 range again.

Invincible Iron Man #7 has lost 85% of its value since September 2021.

Invincible Iron Man #7, which contains the first appearance of Riri in cameo (on the very last page), has fallen even further. Since reaching its all-time high of $385 in September 2021, this book then proceeded to plummet in value over the next two years. Today, according to GoCollect, its 30 day average is only $71.

In late August, two buyers purchased 9.8s of this issue for $60 or less. The copy seen in the screenshot below sold for $57. That amount would barely cover the costs of shipping to CGC and grading.

Considering this book's all-time high sale was $385, this book has lost about 85% of its value in a very short period of time. Like Invincible Iron Man #9, I also think this book overcorrected. While I think it's a good idea to ignore this book's values during 2021-22 (those sales are historical outliers caused by the "bubble"), I do think this book should be selling in the $175 range or its approximate value just prior to the comic boom.
