If you haven't heard yet, Amazon will be producing a television series based on the Image Comic Invincible by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker and illustrated by Ryan Ottley. I'll be honest before the news I knew very little about this hero. I also think not many others know who he is. However, with voice actors as the legendary Mark Hamill, J. K. Simmons, Steven Yeun, and Seth Rogen, it sounds like it will be a hit. But who exactly is Invincible? Why should we watch a show about him? Well, I got the scoop for you!

Who is Invincible?

This story stars Mark Grayson, a normal teenager whose father is Omni-Man, the greatest superhero on the planet. Mark's father Nolan is a novelist who tells his son at the age of 7 that he is from a peaceful race of aliens called Viltrumites. This race of aliens supposedly came to Earth to help mankind, we come to find out this was a huge lie. However, Mark's powers finally kick in at the age of 17,  realizing his strength when he flings a garbage bag miles away. What I loved is seeing his mother's reaction to Mark accessing his powers with her saying, "That's nice. Can you pass the potatoes?". You would think it would be an epic moment, but the family, so used to Omni-Man and his heroics, just brush it off.

As for his powers, he has the same ones as his father. Those include super-strength, speed, invulnerability, flight, decelerated aging, and enhanced healing. Invincible actually got his hero name from speaking to his principal. While getting in trouble for pushing a bully against a locker, the principal told him, "remember, you are not invincible."

Voice Cast

As of right now, the voice cast sounds like a Walking Dead reunion. Considering this is Kirkman's baby I can see why. So as of right now, here is the list of the characters and their voice actors:

Books to Snatch Up

Now that we know a little about him, let's see which books you should grab. Obviously, his first appearance is a must have. However, Invincible #1 has seen a huge spike since the trailer dropped.  If you haven't seen it you can click here and watch it. A 9.8 is holding an FMV of $1,800. If you just want a copy to read, I say go for the variants that are selling for much less. Larry's Comics Variant of issue #1 only has an FMV of $140 for a graded 9.8, see much cheaper.

Lesser-known keys like his previews and cameo can be found for cheap. Those are Tech Jacket #1 (preview), Savage Dragon #102 (preview), Noble Causes: Family Secrets #3a (cameo), and Noble Causes: Family Secrets #3b Variant (Cameo and Cover Appearance). Most of these can be obtained for less than $200 except for the variant with his cover appearance. That issue has an FMV of $400 at a 9.8 but anything under a 9.8 is under $200.

Invincible #2  is the origin of Mark's father, Omni-Man. You also get some first appearances of the Mauler Twins, Robot, Rex-Splode, Atom Eve, and Dupli-Kate. Its prices are similar to that of the variant above. The FMV for a 9.8 is $400 with grades below that going for under $200.

Lastly, we have Invincible #5, the first appearance of Allen the Alien. Allen is the surviving member of a genetic experiment created to fight the Viltrumites. He played a decent part within the comics, so I assume he will be doing the same within the series. Prior to the news, a 9.8 was going for under $200.  However, in September we saw a sale of a 9.8 go for $775! But like the others, if you go for any grade lower, you will pay below $200.

Hope this helped give you some insight into this awesome super-hero. I have to admit, after reading some of the books it sounds like a great run. Hopefully, the television series will be as well. Do you have any more insight on Invincible? Let me know below and let's start chatting!

Till Next Time, Happy Hunting!
